Is Sundin the best Bud ever? Thu, October 11, 2007
Mats Sundin was credited with an assist that gave him a club-record 917 points Thursday night, but television replays did not show him touching the puck on the scoring play.
The announced crowd of 19,319 gave Toronto's captain a standing ovation.
Will Toronto fans remember Mats Sundin as the greatest Leaf of all time? Have your say in our forum.
How could you compare Clark to Sundin? Sundin has to be considered the best and most dignified..no offence to Clarky, but there is no comparison in terms of career contributions to the leafs...They got just as far in the playoffs with Sundin as with Clark.

Greatest Leaf ever? Isn't that an oxymoron? Greatness is more than stats. Greatness comes with victories, and championships. Leafs have not won squat in 40 years. So nobody associated with this group of losers can ever be described as "great".
Guy Lafleur was great. Patrick Roy was great.
Sittler, Sundin, Clark, Gilmour were all pretty good players.....but great haha I think not. What did they ever win? Good gawd, if they make the playoffs , that is considered "Great"
Look down the road to Chicago. The Black Hawks are basically on a par with the Leafs. Both teams are shoddy dismal outfits that are too accustomed to losing. Do the Hawks call every Tom,Dick & Harry who ever wore the sweater "great". Of course not.
An example? Howzabout holding a night for the "great" Tie Domi......they shoulda retired his jersey , don't ya think?
Billy Barilko's career was shorter than Sundin's and he had a lot less points.
Sundin will never be remembered for any goals that really mattered. Billy Barilko wins hands down.

Mats the best? For some Franchises he would second only to God. In Toronto he should be considered as a shoe in for the LEAFS all time team. One of few players who would not have been out of place or time in any era of the LEAFS storied history. I was in the building for his 500th goal. I wish I could have been there last night.
GO MATS GO LEAFS

How sad it must be to be a Leaf fan. When you even consider Mats Sundin as your greatest player ever, it's very telling of franchise steeped in mediocrity.

Not only has he set team records in goals and points, but in the last few seasons, he's accumulated points without the help of any decent line-mates. Antropov as a first liner... give me a break. Maybe in the OHL.

First class all the way, he is a great player and person, trade him to us out west and put a flames jersey on him, he's done so much for toronto he deserves to be traded to a contender and a real chance to raise the cup, wouldn't that be a site to see........

No offence to Sundin but he is far from the best Leaf of all time or the best swede. Borje Salming was the best swede.
Mats gets most of his points when the Leafs or winning or losing big. Look at the last 20 games of last season, he had no goals when he was really needed to provide offence to " his " team. Mats is a good player and not a leader unfortunately.
If he was better than Sittler he would have broken the records playing less games not more.

Mats ranks up there with the top four or five Leafs (Sittler, Clarke, Keon, Beliveau). I would say he is the best if he were more physical ala Wendel.
