Can the NHL eliminate head shots? Thu, October 11, 2007
Philadelphia Flyers' Jesse Boulerice expects to receive a lengthy suspension after taking a match penalty for cross-checking Vancouver Canucks centre Ryan Kesler in the head Wednesday night.
"I reacted in a bad way -- the wrong way," said Boulerice.
Can the NHL eliminate head shots? Have your say in our forum.
I just saw the wicked elbow thrown by Tootoo. He should get at least 20 games. That was brutal.

Boulerice simply should be gone - minimum the season, but ideally, forever. And Jordan Tootoo should get at least 20+.

it seems a little funny to me that every year at this time, it seems the canucks are whining about one of their players getting trucked. the gentleman didn't even go for a x-ray and the towels come out. this isn't kindergarten, keep your head up and try not to get hurt if you can't keep up.

Boulerice deserves a long suspension but so does Sundin for his attack on Komisarek. The NHL has to suspend all dirty players whether they are 4th liners like Boulerice or a Leaf captain like Sundin.

Why shouldn't these cases be prosecuted criminally? Why shouldn't players like McAmmond be able to sue players like Downie? (Don't start on Moore vs. Bertuzzi - the NHLPA should be disbanded over this one.)
The NHL is a garbage league, and will be until they remove the instigator penalty and start suspending players MUCH more severely than they are. START with 40 games or the length of the injury inflicted (whichever is greater), for a first offense of this kind. A second offense would go to 80 games, followed by a lifetime ban. For ANY premeditated stick / elbow / blindside punch to the head. Criminal and civil cases to become de rigeur.
Obviously, nothing is getting through to these morons, so it's time that someone else clean up their act for them.

On Apr 17/98 Jesse on OHL Plymouth Whalers intentionally whacked Guelph Storm's Andrew Long in the face causing serious face & head injuries. League commissioner ruled it was a vicious & deliberate attack, suspended him for the entire 98-99 season. He's clearly a repeat offender. How many chances should he get? I say give him a lifetime ban before he kills someone. The NHL needs to deal harsh punishment to this loser. I like the previous comments of fining/punishing the Flyers too.

Same team, same crime, double the time to 40 games and maybe they will get the message. This has to be the dumbest yet.

Gee, I thought this was hockey, not Ice Dancing. If you take away aggression from the game, you lose the game. Was it a cheap shot? Yes. Was it worse than what Tie Domi did his ENTIRE career. No. But he's a hero. A little consistancy is all I ask.

Boulerice is an idiot. When he played in the OHL he got a lenghty suspension. He is the true definition of a goon, no skills at all.
The NHL needs to get rid of his type completely. Someone said suspend the GM as well, thats a good idea. I would agree with that 100 %.
Its one thing to be a rugged player that can fight, ( Wendel Clark, Gary Roberts etc ) but just being in the league to fight is a waste of a roster spot and there salary.
For this incident I am disgusted to be a Flyers fan.
