Philadelphia Flyers' Jesse Boulerice expects to receive a lengthy suspension after taking a match penalty for cross-checking Vancouver Canucks centre Ryan Kesler in the head Wednesday night.
"I reacted in a bad way -- the wrong way," said Boulerice.
Can the NHL eliminate head shots? Have your say in our forum.
Players give a heads up
Randy Jones hit Patrice Bergeon from behind into the glass. Bergeon was knocked out, has a broken nose and a concussion.
Watching the replay he is likey his neck wasnt broken. Then to hear Nick Kpyreos say thats a good hockey hit says something about how the players see good clean legal hits. To me that wasnt one.
That is suspendable for as many games as a head shot.

Anyone that uses their stick like that should get a life time ban, no exceptions.
Hockey is slowly going down the drain with all this crap going on. The players dont have the respect for each other anymore, maybe it is because of the equipment, they dont think they can be hurt or hurt someone else.
Its time the league took care of this garbage once and for all.

Bible thumpers, assorted criers and scribes all call for something equivalent to the death penalty for such behavior in what is a extremely fast impact sport.
For the record I am against all of the above, but I do not think the NHL can clear any of it completely. There will always be incidents for 2 reasons.
1- The league treats soldiers and starts differently. 2- The players do not seem to respect each other as much as the "good old days" with less equipment and no instigator rule.

What he did in the OHL ( baseball swing to an opponents head ) should have prevented him from playing in the NHL.
Maybe it is what someone else said, roid rage. What Kesler did, finish his check wasnt dirty.

I wonder how long it will be until us cryers start equating two heavyweights aiming at each others heads, you know, intent to injure by aiming at the head. Premeditated - Get it out of the Game. Just kidding. I like fighting during NHL games. I am a Flames fan and The Flame Godard, is the meanest in the NHL valley and can score too.

i) He used the stick as a weapon to injure.
ii) His act and intent to seriously injure Kesler was premeditated
iii) His act was not a 'hockey play'
iv) He used excessive force
v) The result could have been a permanent injury or death to Kesler, the Victim
vi) NHL players have a right to play without the fear for their lives by going to work
vii) 25 games will not be a deterrent any more than 20 games was a deterrent after the Steve Downie hit, or the Chris Simon Hit.
viii) He is a repeat offender
ix) A one year suspension for the first offence with the premeditated use of a stick TO THE HEAD as a weapon in a 'non-hockey play' should be the minimum penalty for a first offence.
