What should the Leafs do?
Tue, January 8, 2008

The Maple Leafs felt like throwing a hockey stick through the television following last night's 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, preferably at the big HD screen at National Hockey League headquarters in Toronto.

But angry Nik Antropov took the team's anger at a costly overtime penalty and three video replay reversals the hardest, hurling his stick towards referees Mike Leggo and Don Koharski after Rod Brind'Amour netted the game-winner.

Forget about throwing hockey sticks. What about throwing in the towel on the season? What should the Leafs do before the trade deadline? Have your say in our forum.

Isn't this just another version of the famous leaf nations' yearly question:"Will the leafs make the playoff?"..My god!!..Give it a rest already! The leafs suck!,period!

The feds just funded pond hockey..I'm sure there're plenty of young prospects there..Hurry over there, and keep an eye on them kids, before JFJ starts trading them away. It'll give you guys something to do,if you're this bored.

Ok, so they had a bad game. Big deal, they have played very well up until the Carolina game. Every team gets blown out at one time or another during the season, so don't write them off yet. Let's see where they stand come Christmas time and then make up your minds. Give this team a chance, last year they got a bunch of new faces, so let's see what happens.

I wrote the Leafs off this summer when they decided to bring back the same team that didnt make the playoffs the year before.

I for one will no longer tolerate this kind of treatment by the board or Peddie. I will not watch the Leafs until they rebuild this team and hire a hockey person to run things.

Thankfully I can get my hockey fill from TSN on Wednesday nights and the late game Saturday night, I prefer watching the western teams style of play anyway.

One fan that has finally said enough is enough already!

Someone said that Tucker should be captain. Ya gotta be kidding! He may look like he's working hard. But trust me...it's all an act. He's as phoney as a 3 dollar bill. No talent. Only scores on 5 on 3. What is he already -minus 5. He's a floater. Side-show Bob indeed. President of his own fan club. He makes me puke.

The Leafs suck, The Leafs suck, The Leafs suck. There it's been said, lets move on. No they won't make the playoffs, no they won't win the Stanley Cup. Did I mention, the Leafs suck, the leafs suck, the leafs suck. They always have. Get over it, stop wondering, stop pondering, stop with the conjecture, they suck, they suck and then they suck some more and no I'm not just talking about Sundin.

One game doesn't a season make. However, the calibre of hockey that was played in last season's playoffs proved to me that the Leafs are vastly inferior in talent and are simply not up to the level of the other teams.

There is not much hope either with an uncaring ownership and an unknowledgeable GM. JFJ cannot tell a good hockey player from a bad one. Montreal was able to turn to a young goaltender last night and now there is some hope for their fans whereas Toronto has no good young players to offer hope. Newbury, Battaglia, Pohl, Ondrus, Carlo and Andy Woz' are marginal players. Steen and Stajan just can't seem to step up to the plate. Wellwood is just a bit above average but is not an impact player. By the way check out the names of the Toronto scouts. Must be somebody's brother in-law or cousins because apart from Army Armstrong (God forbid he is allowed to make a hockey decision) they are an unrecognizable lot.

Everything about this team is wrong. The attempt at defensive hockey won't work with their terrible, slow moving defensemen. To permit JFJ to make one further move or trade after his abysmal track record is to doom the team for at least another 5 years. But who would want to try to salvage this tain wreck? There are not a lot of good potential GMs who would want to be part of this mess. Toronto needs draft picks desperately but JFJ traded a 1st, 2nd and 4th round pick for one player! JFJ should be fired today. Because of the absence of any amangement whatsoever it won't happen until the Leafs are 13 wins and 18 losses and JFJ has been allowed to do more irreparable damage.

How can anyone believe that a team that has almost the same lineup (only two years older) that couldn't make the playoffs for the last two years, can make it this year or ever again if there are not some major changes. This team does not need tweeks it needs a full over haul.

What took this Long!!!
Peggi, 2007-10-10 12:22:19

Relax ... after the Leafs string together a couple of wins the planning for the Stanley Cup parade down Bay St. will be underway. Toronto sports writers are a joke. After a loss the Leafs are a bunch of bums. After a win the Dynamic Duo are the greatest thing since Gretzky and Kurri, the Young Guns are blazing, all cylinders are firing, Sundin is a leader and blah blah blah.

The fans are to blame for the leafs position.

Year after year after year. Every leaf game is sold out. So from an owners point of view, i dont blame them at all. I blame the fans.

I dont blame coaching, players, or even owners. I blame the fans! Why change a team when the same crappy team sells out day in and day out.

How bout you guys stop supporting the team! how bout you stop filling the seats. once the owners realize they are losing money, they will bring in those young stars, they will spend those millions on younger talented super stars. Look at Pittsburgh. they were on the brink of relocation, now they are a threat with so much young talent. Look at ottawa, at one point one of the worst teams in the league, barely selling out one game! now, its hard just to get tickets, why? because they have an extremely talented team.

The leafs will never get better unless you give the owners/managment a reason to improve. And right now, they have no reason. why? they are selling out each game.

THe leafs are one of the richest teams in the league.

STOP SUPPORTING THEM!!!! thats the only way you'll see a change.
