2012 GAMES

What should the Leafs do?
Tue, January 8, 2008

The Maple Leafs felt like throwing a hockey stick through the television following last night's 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, preferably at the big HD screen at National Hockey League headquarters in Toronto.

But angry Nik Antropov took the team's anger at a costly overtime penalty and three video replay reversals the hardest, hurling his stick towards referees Mike Leggo and Don Koharski after Rod Brind'Amour netted the game-winner.

Forget about throwing hockey sticks. What about throwing in the towel on the season? What should the Leafs do before the trade deadline? Have your say in our forum.

Why even consider the Leafs/Sens.....Junior B hockey.......If you want to compare the Senators to any team start with the West.......Who cares if they can, look great against lower-tiered teams......Push comes to shove, for all the cash they spent, they bought themselves an aging team......with not a lot of room to grow.....Check out the lineup vs. who has to go as well as who has heart..outlook is bad as compared to a real franchise.....check out AV's and cry

Like many long-time fan's of the TML; I write in despair and disappointment, after another game loss to the Sens last night. We LOVE the Leafs... However, Management had better make some changes soon, or else we'll continue to undergo constant scrutiny and humiliation. Great team they are, Ottawa.. But why praytell, should they have a better team? Most Sen's fan's were Leafs (or Habs) fans before Ottawa brought back the Senators anyhow.

Born in Ottawa, but raised much of my life in Toronto (I was shocked to see how much Ottawa dislikes anything about Toronto - in general, actually.)

I find it disturbing to see nothing done about the "Leafs shortfall" situation after all these years. Gilmour, Clark, Andreychuk, Francheschetti... To name a few of the force they once had.

Sadly, people are losing (or have lost) faith. We haven't, and we know that most player's hearts are in it; however, finding a few more key players would be wise. Lord knows this franchise has the money to do so. So why isn't anything being done? Every Leaf's fan I know just grumbles about it passively. "The Ballard Curse"... Hogwash.

We'll support our team, but it is expected that management do the same. Somewhere down the line, you've given up on visionary thinking for this team. Given up trying to make a difference.

Let's bring Stanley home again...

(Preferabaly before the loonie reaches $1.50 U.S.)

We still love you, guys.

In faith we remain strong...

Well a Die Hard Leafs's hoping they lose their next 10 games...and badly....then the fans will be booing...and management might have to take their heads out of the sand and do something with this team. Never thought I'd say this...but we need McCabe lose some games!!!!!

I understand your frustration Marlyn, and agree that a lot fewer butts in the seats would provoke some fundamental changes. But unfortunately, that isn't going to happen.

All it takes is a 2- or 3-game winning streak and the diehards (of which there are enough to ensure the seats remain filled) will be back on top of the world. It happens every season.

Right now they are on a high because of the recent road record, and when they win tonight in Ottawa (which they likely will as the Sens are due for an off night - say 5-2?) they'll be strutting around like they just won the Cup. Until the next meltdown at home.

Owners who don't give a damn about the game...a GM who knows nothing about the game...a Coach trying to make stars out of an average team...and Fans who continue to buy tickets and go the the games....I'm a diehard Leafs Fan...but this year I am totally disgusted with this organization..Maurice is doing the best he can, with what he has...It's time for FANS to go on STRIKE...boycott the games...if the owners aren't making any money...changes will happen!!

Has anyone else noticed how well they play WITHOUT Brian McCabe. He's got to be the most underwhelming high-priced player out there.

Ferguson blew it signing him for so much. Now we'll never get rid of him 'cause he's so obviously not worth the money.

Trade him for a bag of pucks and a third round pick, for God's sake.

The problem with the leafs is from the top down. Dumb and dumber up top need to go and take Fergie with them. If you put an average hockey team on the ice you will get an average record. I think if you spend that much on your blue line and are getting the results we are currently getting is typical for the MLSE circus. I am sick of the just stand pat stance.

The Maple Leafs play best when they are hitting and playing on the edge with intensity.

They seem to do this one or two games and then go back to laying back and being passive.

The need a couple more forwards who can skate and bang, plus they need a good, stay at home defenceman who can move the puck and skate.

Their defence stands around in some games and lets the other team get too many rebounds. The goalie is there to stop the first and maybe second shot. It's up to the defence to not let the opponent get 3 or 4 rebounds on a play.

Too many to list LOL.
