What should the Leafs do?
Tue, January 8, 2008

The Maple Leafs felt like throwing a hockey stick through the television following last night's 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, preferably at the big HD screen at National Hockey League headquarters in Toronto.

But angry Nik Antropov took the team's anger at a costly overtime penalty and three video replay reversals the hardest, hurling his stick towards referees Mike Leggo and Don Koharski after Rod Brind'Amour netted the game-winner.

Forget about throwing hockey sticks. What about throwing in the towel on the season? What should the Leafs do before the trade deadline? Have your say in our forum.

Even if heads were to roll in management nothing will improve until Peddie and the board butt out of the hockey departemnt and they hire a true hockey man with alot of experience and take a hands off approach and let the hockey man start to rebuild this laughing stock from the ground up.

I think the Leaf diehards will be happy if they rip this team apart and start rebuilding if there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that light is a true cup contender. In this salary cap era you have to build through the draft. No more trading away first round picks for a player that may help get the Leafs get the 8th playoff spot then lose in the first round.

Look at the record they have, 20 games played, 7 wins. They have given up 15 or so goals more than they have scored. Pathetic.

Hey clean the whole situation up. Keep Sundin make him the GM bring up half the Marlies and look to the next three or 4 years with just young players that want to play and wear the Blue and White. They must start somewhere because the past 20years of this crap is enough. Clean house!!!!!!

I cannot understand why Paul Maurice seems to get a free ride while everyone blames JFJ, who certainly deserves his share. But this team is consistently NOT ready for game (see opening shift against Boston), they look unmotivated and their specialty teams are pathetic. Those realms all belong to the coach. You can't tell me that this team is as bad as it has played. It's not a contender but it also isn't as poor as it's been. And while McCabe et al deserve criticism, it's' time for Maurice - who has had ONE good year as an NHL coach - to be axed. Look what a coaching change did for Atlanta!

Toronto is blessed with hockey fans that really know their hockey. Its a shame that we cant say the same thing about people inside and actually running the MAPLE LEAFS organization.

Being a Leaf fan this year is worse than any other year. Even in the real bad years (not just ordinary bad years) the Leafs could do something well. Perhaps, they were competitive against the good teams, maybe they were strong on the power play, perhaps very strong in goal...However, this year there is no strength anywhere or any real hope.

Yes--it is time to sweep the slate clean!!!However, you must bring in someone very strong at the top.

Only in the NHL would a team with a 7 - 13 record be considered a playoff contender. There is no reason for Toronto fans to expect the Leafs to win the Stanley Cup in the next 40 years. After all the Leaf strategy is to trade off all #1 picks to try for spot in the playoffs and a quick exit to the golf courses.

Gustav is accurate in his assessment of McCabe.

Numbnuts scored a bunch of powerplay goals when the "new officiating" started a couple of years ago.....Duh! Remember all of those 5 on 3 powerplays? Tucker & McCabe thrived on those situations.

Frick....there was nobody on the ice!

Ahhh but 5 on 5....these two are not worth a plugged nickel. Tucker is totally ineffective & invisible. Always a minus player.

I don't know what you jokers are watching but when I see McCabe trying to play in his own end, I don't see no LarryRobinson...Frick....I'd rather have Butch Bouchard than that weaner McCabe.

I rest my case. But if you disagree and think otherwise....knock yourself out......cos you know diddly.

Fan, is it really loyalty when the whole city starts tearing their shirts and demanding heads roll when the team loses? Real fans would allow the GM to make some tough decisions, like trading Sundin, but not in Toronto. Stop freaking out, let the team stink for a few years in rebuilding mode and ignore it if the press has nothing better than to write who threw the puck away last night. Give the youngsters more ice time and build so that in a few years the team has a shot at winning. This team doesn't, but hey, that's not a crime, nobody should be fired, there are no miracles around the corner if only so and so were traded, there's no minor leaguer that inserted into the lineup would win it all....

I say that the leafs and marlies switch jerseys the marlies are undefeated and they can't do any worse
