What should the Leafs do?
Tue, January 8, 2008

The Maple Leafs felt like throwing a hockey stick through the television following last night's 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, preferably at the big HD screen at National Hockey League headquarters in Toronto.

But angry Nik Antropov took the team's anger at a costly overtime penalty and three video replay reversals the hardest, hurling his stick towards referees Mike Leggo and Don Koharski after Rod Brind'Amour netted the game-winner.

Forget about throwing hockey sticks. What about throwing in the towel on the season? What should the Leafs do before the trade deadline? Have your say in our forum.

Most prestigious (and highest value) team according to the money people. US

Can not watch a continuous hope that has lots of cash but no guts to spend it for the right players( tough job, (I'll take it)

Still turn on the game but shut it down after 5 minutes.

Not like the old days with my dad on Saturday night with a bowl of popcorn (the real popcorn)

Rick 48 years old

Thanks

PS Lots of heads should roll, if this was normal business it would not have lasted this long.

Hockey is BIG business. Why don't the owners of all teams, not just Toronto, pay the players according to their production. Commission salesman are paid this way and they know they have to produce or no $$$$$$. If Toronto management, and boy is that an oxymoron, paid McCabe, Kubina, Tucker et al, then you see more effort than we have so far this season. Toronto has been burdened with too many $5.00 an hour players.

Fergie, if you are a GM, start acting like one because up tp now you have been a miserable failure.

I have wasted too many hours since you have arrived on the scene and I am totally fed up with you and your bosses. None of the management team know squat about hockey and it shows.

What difference would it make if heads would roll? The Leafs have shown unwavering commitment to a policy of icing substandard teams, whether by providing mediocre talent or questionable coaching.

There is nothing wrong with this team that a miracle couldn't cure, such as the opposing team being vapourized prior to each match, or earthquakes knocking out only the opposition dressing room...

Maybe the Leafs could ask for special concessions, like not having a net for the opposition to shoot pucks into.

To be fair, they have played to a tie in every game, at least until the opening whistle. They were even in first place (tied with Ottawa) before the season started. Yup, undefeated. Too bad they have to lace on skates like the other teams....

To Leafs fans and the T.O. media ... RELAX!!! The Stanley Cup is won in June, not November. After a win over Ottawa on Saturday we can get back to working on the floats for the parade and all will be well.
Toronto Parade Committee, 2007-11-16 20:53:15

I'm glad the team is tanking right now. Maybe for once, there won't be this false sense of optimism that seems to carry this team year after year.

The players are just not up to the standard they need to be to compete with the likes of Ottawa and Detroit. Decisions that seemed like a good idea at the time such as Raycroft, McCabe, Kubina, Blake, etc are not turning out that way. They were risk calls and had they gone the other way, Furgueson would look like a genius right now.

Sundin can't will this team into the playoffs anymore on his own and he shouldn't have to. He has to admit that this team is just not good enough and move on. Toronto has to do what Jersey did and make some tough decisions and free up cap space.

Here's hoping they do poorly consistently so that the team can clean house and start from scratch. The fans have waited this long, what's another 5 years to rebuild from the ground up.

Which part of his record reflects that of an "excellent" coach? Why did Carolina start winning Cups the very next season AFTER he was fired? And if Maurice is an excellent coach, what does that make Pat Quinn or Scotty Bowman?

okay He Should Be Fired,i can Hardly Wait Untill the Sens play The Leafs On Saturday. If They Lose Bigtime Changer Are Needed Right Away.

STOP GOING TO THE GAMES PEOPLE IF YOU KEEP GOING THEY DON'T CARE
GIVEN UP FAN, 2007-11-16 17:25:36

the only way to stop this is for people to stop going to the games because they don't care as long the arena is filled up i wouldn't spend $100 to watch them lose
connie, 2007-11-16 17:17:34

bring back Quin as President,G.M. and coach then the players would have to listen to either the president,gm. or the coach.NOBODY ELSE.
Mike Ladouceur, 2007-11-16 16:30:03

No heads will roll. They are content as ever with the typical medeocrity they show each year. Keep up the good work Richard, Larry and John. They always say that great leadership comes from the top down. But in this case the lafs just make me bottoms up! Enjoy the leafs responsibly.
