What should the Leafs do?
Tue, January 8, 2008

The Maple Leafs felt like throwing a hockey stick through the television following last night's 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, preferably at the big HD screen at National Hockey League headquarters in Toronto.

But angry Nik Antropov took the team's anger at a costly overtime penalty and three video replay reversals the hardest, hurling his stick towards referees Mike Leggo and Don Koharski after Rod Brind'Amour netted the game-winner.

Forget about throwing hockey sticks. What about throwing in the towel on the season? What should the Leafs do before the trade deadline? Have your say in our forum.

Hey McCabe's Biggest Fan....sorry but Gustav is right on. NcCabe is useless. About 2 million other Leaf fans agree.

I'm 38 and this is the lowest point I can remember since the Ballard years. The Leafs are in a big hole and it will take a few years if they are lucky to get out. I hate to say it but Mats should be traded. Mats and some other big names should be moved out for some young talent like Cory Perry type players. At least if Mats were to be traded Leaf fans would have whatever team he was on to root for, as long as it wasn't Ottawa. Looks like its time for us Leafers to break out the paper bags.
Steve McWilliam, 2007-11-28 17:26:03

First and foremost, they should get rid of Ferguson immediately.IF the team doesn't improve they should also fire Maurice.

Get rid of McCabe! He's a total loss now, he plays one or two good games, then half a dozen stinkers!

No wonder he doesn't want to leave Toronto! What other team would have been stupid enough to pay him the salary he gets now ($7.5 million wasn't it?)Their defence, with the possible exceptions of Kaberle & White, are totally inept. They're too slow for one thing and are hopeless keeping opposing players from crashing the net. Hopefully they don't trade Sundin,Tucker,Antropov,Ponikorvsky & maybe Stajan. Their other forwards are totally unproductive!

Norbit - dont lump the good fans like me with the bandwagon jumpers. we pay to support the tem becuse win or lose, they are our team. But when u see what ppl are saying about JFJ, coach Marice and the players on the street, it makes you wish they go jump on another tem's bandwagon and be problem to another team

Ya Gustafv, I sappose the fact that those were PP goals that Kovalev scored mens nothing to u! And one was a 5 on 3! If you think Brians the only reason why the leafs are losing, then you know nothing about hockey, aside from the fact that your name resembles another defencement who was a big bust when he played her! You try being paired with Woznewski or Kaberle and not look dumb (see the Pheonix game when they gave up that break away? nuff said). Oh wait that's right, you never played hockey at that level and if you did, youd warm the bench for mcabe while was playing. Fans like you drive away the good players from coming here and make the media to dream up stories about the leaf front office. "Will heads rooll?" LOL! JFJ, Maurice, and everyone on the team: quit, get traded or get out of this city and escape, and go to real teams where fans apprecaite u!

just look at their players how the hell you going to win with the likes of deveraux, belak, pohl, stajan, and on and on. these are not even good AHL players.. over and out

I used to beleive the Harold Ballard rule in that why spend money on a team, leaf fans pay for anything on the ice. I looked at the salaries for teams since 1993. 1993 15/24 teams, 1994

7/26 which they averaged until about 2004 where they were 4th highest in salary. So they are spending the money, its just not on the right guys. Where leaf fans fall apart is in who they revere and want to pay for. Domi and Tucker come to mind. When these guys are the fan favourites, don't expect a cup any time soon.

face it Leafs fans: your team is awful, the management is a joke and the ownership is a joke. how to fix it you ask? stop buying tickets, merchandise etc. as long as you continue to make the Leafs the wealthiest team in the league, there is no impetus to change anything. so until you gullible fools stop lining the pockets of a pension fund, shut your pieholes and stop whining because YOU are the real cause.
Norbit, 2007-11-28 14:07:57

Reading all these comments is like reading comments from the 1970's,1980's and 1990's. I have heard all this stuff for the last 40 years and yet the fans fill the stands. I say boycot Leaf TV and stop going to the games. They don't care as long as the team (the richest in the world of sports) is making money and as long as the fans keep showing up. I can't do this on my own so stop paying for Leafs TV as I have and don't go to the games. If everybody would follow my example they would have a winning team. I used to pee a heavy steam of blue and white now it's just a yellow dribble, when I can pee. I'll have a catheter and be eating strained foods before they have a winning team. I say BOYCOTT LEAF TV and the games.

Hey Ronaldo....So you list a bunch of leafs defensemen as "marginal" talents. You forgot the one with "zero" talent....the $ 7.5 million dollar clown...McCabe.

What in the world was he doing on Kovalev's 2nd goal?

That was too funny....here he is flipping, flopping and sliding along the ice like a trout in a boat, leaving Kovalev looking at an open net.

I think Kovalev could have at least said " thanks Bryan"

McCabe, good gawd, he not only cannot stop the opposition from scoring...he is usually the reason that they score. This is an Indisputable fact.... Amen.

He is the direct reason the Leafs are where they are. These innumerable gaffs cost goals....which cost points...which means No Playoffs. Amen.

Anyone who does not agree. Knows diddly about hockey. Amen again
