What should the Leafs do?
Tue, January 8, 2008

The Maple Leafs felt like throwing a hockey stick through the television following last night's 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, preferably at the big HD screen at National Hockey League headquarters in Toronto.

But angry Nik Antropov took the team's anger at a costly overtime penalty and three video replay reversals the hardest, hurling his stick towards referees Mike Leggo and Don Koharski after Rod Brind'Amour netted the game-winner.

Forget about throwing hockey sticks. What about throwing in the towel on the season? What should the Leafs do before the trade deadline? Have your say in our forum.

I'm a TB Lightning fan. You Leaf fans shouldn't start celebrating yet --- my boys did quite the choke job in the second period last night, and that Antropov benefitted from Holmquist's sleepiness in the crease. The Toronto media keeps bringing up this supposed trade that never happened, where Lecavalier should have been dealt for Antropov and a few others --- thank goodness for us that never happened. He's only an average player with above average size and scoring skills, not a star.

A few years ago i was all over everyone who liked Antro... he was slow, lazy, undetermined, and just not playing a very smart game. I thought with the new ways of the leauge he would be eatn alive, but man am i wrong so far.

This year though he's totally a new player. He's stepped up his game and he is a key essential part of the Leafs plan. Hes playing tough, smart, and his legs are always moving as each stride this year is more determined than ever. WAs he fragile? I never thought he was, he just had some bad luck which could happen to anyone.

I hope he keeps this going... not only the points he puts up but i hope he keeps his feet moving and his heart big. Its the only way to play in Toronto.

Although he may be playing well...there is no better time than the present to trade him and get something solid in return. He will go down before the All Star break with a season ending injury, it's inevitable.

Really? Toronto is happy as long as it's cosmopolitan.

Antropov has developed into a complete hockey player. Compared to a few years ago, he's faster, great defensively, a load in front of the net, he has great hands and a nice passing and scoring touch, and he no longer takes stupid penalties at bad times. Haven't looked lately but I believe he has a decent +/-. I'll eat crow, because I would have traded him years ago if it was up to me - that would have been a typical Leaf move.

He's not fragile at all, and he's mean. He's just sturdy defensively as well.

he's going to be a stud. just watch.

Good lord no.

I'm not sure having 12 wins and 18 loses would be considered on the right track but they did have a good stretch.

I think it's a good bet that they will be a few years before they are a playoff team.

Here's to the 2010 Leafs.
