What should the Leafs do?
Tue, January 8, 2008

The Maple Leafs felt like throwing a hockey stick through the television following last night's 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, preferably at the big HD screen at National Hockey League headquarters in Toronto.

But angry Nik Antropov took the team's anger at a costly overtime penalty and three video replay reversals the hardest, hurling his stick towards referees Mike Leggo and Don Koharski after Rod Brind'Amour netted the game-winner.

Forget about throwing hockey sticks. What about throwing in the towel on the season? What should the Leafs do before the trade deadline? Have your say in our forum.

George.....wasn't giving you the gears for being old. Just for not being too bright.

As for the pseudonym...you might try using one. Myself and others post here to educate, entertain and amuse.

Others like yourself tend to take themselves too seriously....so relax, have another shot of metamucil, change your diaper and try to enjoy life.

Goob... are you implying that Tucker is overpaid?

As you say , let's do the math. Tucks has 8 pts in 30 games. Therefore, at his salary, he is getting

$ 36,585 per game or $136,363 per point.

MMm not bad for Tucks, not a great deal for Leafs.

At that rate, Lecavalier and Spezza should be paid about $ 17,000,000 per annum.

Of course, we are not factoring in the intangibles Tucks brings. In particular the comic relief. The diving. The whining. The hair-tossing. The bleeding. The referee baiting. The best is usually when he runs at an opponent from behind, opponent moves aside. Tucker crashes into boards with great gusto ...basically knocking himself onto queer street.

As you say Goob....priceless

Excuse us for growing old. At least we don't hide behind cyber courage and post under a pseudonym.

Nothing worse than a couple of geezers bickering over which one is the dumbest. In my opinion, it's a toss-up. So shaddup.

More importantly. I noticed Tucker is ranked at no.364 in league scoring. Let's do the math. There are 30 teams . Each team gives majority of ice time to 3 lines(9forwards) and 4 defensemen .so 30 x 13 equals 390. (you still with me geezers?) so there are approx. 26 (390-364) players (regulars) in the league with fewer points than Tucks. or to be kind there are 363 players with more points than Tucks.

ahhh reminds me of the headline of the Hockey News Preseason edition with Tucker on the cover and Tucks is quoted as saying:

"the best is yet to come".

...priceless.

Reminds me of the quote from McCabe, who said: "I'm not the kind of player that turns water into wine every night". ahhh no kidding Caber. Yikes.

Now it's ok to have a big ego if you can back it up. Funny thing though, the really good ones park the ego at the door while useless lunkheads are the presidents of their own fanclubs.

Leaf Nation, you provide us with so much joy. And of course, there is no end in sight.

I won't deny being condescending. Not when it comes to endless displays of a poor grasp of basic English. Nor will I apologize for being educated. However, I also appreciate well-placed sarcasm and irony. But Bob, sarcasm is defined as "the use of bitter language" whereas for insulting it's "speak to or treat with scornful abuse or indignity." Huge difference.

In any event, I'm glad to see you have been sifting through my various posts. Now, why not come up with counter-points to some I made regarding the Leafs, especially as they relate to the original question for this thread which, I think, was something like "what's wrong with the Leafs?" Then we can debate it like two intelligent people.
George O'Leary, 2007-12-28 13:08:15

George, perhaps you should just write a column and educate the rest of us. You even know the difference between "there, their and they're" as you were kind enough to point out. You don't even recognize your own condescending tone. At least I know I'm being sarcastic. Nice talking to you. I think my boots are full now.
bob ashdown, 2007-12-27 17:15:58

A new thread is required here. Might I suggest a countdown or a deathwatch if you will....for the constructors of this brutal team and of course getting rid of deadwood on the ice.

Methinks there should be only days left for likes of: Ferguson,Peddie.Maurice. then the fraudsters (thiefs) on the ice: tucker, sundin, poniwhatever, McCabe. (hey we all feel sorry for Blake but surely he can go too) etc, etc.

If anyone suggests bringing in Doug Gilmour as a cure-all, they should be sent to a psyche ward. Then again, maybe Leaf Nation deserves his act.

Goober, 2007-12-27 17:09:06

Actually, if you must know Bob, I'm a Habs fans - have been since the late 1940s. But not to the point where I focus on them entirely. TV being what it is these days I tune in to a number of teams, among them the Leafs and Sens. I don't "hate" the other teams - in fact, I can watch and analyze the various aspects of each, and when (in a free society) someone like Canoe invites feedback, I feel as free to respond as the next person. Since there is precious little in the way of threads dealing with les Canadiens I throw in my opinions on the others. Where Jake is concerned, as he too resorted to insults (usually the last resort of those who cannot come up with valid counter-points) I simply could not resist pointing out to him that he had become the classic case of the kettle calling the pot black. But I did not throw personal insults at him - nor will I in your case. If you derive some pleasure from those tactics .... well, fill your boots.
George O'Leary, 2007-12-26 16:17:30

Oh George, get serious. When you post a comment like "So Jake, you feel free to castigate others who are allegedly not Leaf fans for posting in the Leafs threads, yet here you are - a diehard Leaf supporter I gather - in a Senators thread giving us your opinions." I don't really have to ASSUME too much, now do I? And Goober, Leno's writers are all on strike ya know. You're pretty funny.
bob ashdown, 2007-12-26 08:07:41

Ahhh poor Leaf Nation. Especially those children opening a gift, only to be saddened that it's a Leaf jersey with number 16 or 24. Many a kid saying " but dad, this guy sucks and so does this gift".

Christmas in Leaf Nation. All of those blue & white toques and sweaters from a

Santa that doesn't care...or doesn't know any better.

Little wonder when their intoxicated pa, believes Antropov is a potential captain.

Sad indeed. Breaks my heart.

While 400klms away, happy kids are donning their Spezza & Heatley jerseys.

on prancer, on blitzen, on spezza and Heater.
