What should the Leafs do?
Tue, January 8, 2008

The Maple Leafs felt like throwing a hockey stick through the television following last night's 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, preferably at the big HD screen at National Hockey League headquarters in Toronto.

But angry Nik Antropov took the team's anger at a costly overtime penalty and three video replay reversals the hardest, hurling his stick towards referees Mike Leggo and Don Koharski after Rod Brind'Amour netted the game-winner.

Forget about throwing hockey sticks. What about throwing in the towel on the season? What should the Leafs do before the trade deadline? Have your say in our forum.

First, I have read too many "hockey geniuses" say that Sundin is over the hill, etc. He is and has been the team's greatest asset. However, trading him or not, MLSE is so financially institutionalized as to not give a damn about their hockey team.

Peddie is a grocery man who makes the teachers' pension roll on. This is not a hockey institution, period. I don't think we will ever see an improved Leaf team as long as the corporate structure remains the same. If the team is to be blown up so must the corporation be blown up. We all know this will not happen as long as the Peddie's of this world exist in sports. End of story.

They all go together, Ferguson, over the hill Matt, HNIC and thier determination to telecast mainly leaf games so the announcers dont have to learn any new player names. The axis of Canadian hockey does not go through the center of old Maple Leaf Gargens like the people of Toronto and HNIC seem to think. The dismal conditions of the team, management and HNIC crew looks good on the organization. I hope the leafs keep JF, Matt and Tucker they are just what they deserve a bunch of over paid under performers.

Oh, please don't blow up the Leafs. The pension fund is moving along quite nicely now, thank you. What the Laughs should blow up are those uniforms. I saw some nice pink ones in a store in town and they make a great gift. Go out and get'em you suckers -- oops, loyal supporters!

I'll tell you what everyone in Toronto laughs at: Mr. Crash Test Dummy Ray Emery.

No need to blow anything up. Just wait until the next magical winning streak gets the Leafs back into the playoff picture. Then we can all get back to working on the floats and planning the parade. While we're at it let's give JFJ a multi-year contract extension.

Seems to me like the MAKE BELIEFS have been rebuilding for that last 40 years!
Joe (former hockey fan), 2008-01-08 19:48:38

Yes, they should blow up the team but what is the point? As long as the team has many "Owners" and none of them has a clue how to operate a hockey team the Leafs will never get better. It is just a waste of time unless they can sell the team to someone who really cares about the hockey team and knows how to operate and hire real hockey people to run it.
Joseph, 2008-01-08 19:44:06

Blow them up now, get as many high draft picks as they can and stick to the rebuilding process for a change. Blue, you are one delusional individual if you think this team is a contender, too funny.
Kirgin, 2008-01-08 19:39:00

Toronto will never get someone like Scotty Bowman as long as they still are run by the same group of knot-heads that hired JFJ.

Maurice is not NHL calibre.

Marlies was a good place for him and he should have never been promoted.

Trade all the overpaid and not producing and get some more young kids who have shown a track record of being an over-achiever.

pretty odd how everybody just relized that as long as they suck they will get better, but i wouldnt be suprised if their bad luck kicked in and they got a low one, or if JFJ traded the pick for a player.
