What should the Leafs do?
Tue, January 8, 2008

The Maple Leafs felt like throwing a hockey stick through the television following last night's 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, preferably at the big HD screen at National Hockey League headquarters in Toronto.

But angry Nik Antropov took the team's anger at a costly overtime penalty and three video replay reversals the hardest, hurling his stick towards referees Mike Leggo and Don Koharski after Rod Brind'Amour netted the game-winner.

Forget about throwing hockey sticks. What about throwing in the towel on the season? What should the Leafs do before the trade deadline? Have your say in our forum.

I am so glad I am not a Leafs fan. They are a joke and will NEVER win a Stanley Cup.... EVER. You Leafs fans might as well pick another team now, it must be awful being let down EVERY year.

somebody buy the dynamite!!!
zeke, 2008-01-14 18:45:09

well i'm sure the leafs mgmt will be in edmonton watching the top prospects in a couple of weeks, a first pick in next years draft might make this pathetic season all worthwhile i'm sure there is another Jeff Ware or Jeff Farkas out there that the Leafs will pick up, and make JFJ look brilliant as usual....

I believe the Leafs somehow started playing below their capabilities. I'm a Habs fan and have seen the way the Leafs show up to play against Montreal. This is a slump. They have good players and will come out of it. They have to believe in themselves. Incidentally I agree with the comment about McGuire. He knows his stuff but is just plain annoying.

The only thing the owners(The Teachers Pension Fund) care about is the cash. The only way to get the board to act is to start a boycott of games, sponsors, Leaf TV etc. Given the lousy quality of the product on and off the ice I am surpriced any sponsor wants to be associated with it. Ive been a fan for 66 years and this is is an all time low. Even Ballard looks good in comparison.

This Leaf team is reminding me of the Ballard years. Absolutely horrible. I wouldn't pay money to go to the ACC but there apparently are a lot of idiots who will ...

Anyway, change needs to come but unfortunately this team looks more and more like a joke as we see constant bickering and inability to decide who makes decisions for this team. The Raptors have done a much better job of turning the franchise around and that is because ONE person makes the player personel decisions.

These are my suggestions:

1). Trade Sundin --> of course this will mean that goals will become even more scarce. I love the guy but he's about the only player worth anything

2) Either send Raycroft down or put him on waivers. I think sending him down is the best ... he can get try and gain some confidence back in the AHL.

3. Trade some of the higher payed low producing players. Tucker / Kubina / Gill ... these guys might help a team in the playoffs

4. Let Richard Peddie coach a game. Let him stand behind the bench and not from the protective suite. Either that or put some skates on him during full contact practice.

I am 47 and have been an avid Leafs fan since 1966. I have finally had enough. While I used to watch every game I could, I haven't watched a full period this year. I have turned down free tickets (good seats I might add) on three occasions this year while in the past I would have jumped at the opportunity. Simply put, too many years of ineptitude and mediocrity have left me completely disinterested. I have better ways to spend both my time and entertainment dollar. I stuck with this organization through some rough years but I have had enough and simply don't care anymore. Let them win lose or draw...who cares!
IDON"TCAREANYMORE, 2008-01-14 16:21:06

Peddie has to go. No real change will happen unless the existing management structure changes. Firing the GM and coach won't accomplish anything if Peddie is still running the show. They will just hire another handcuffed GM who has to submit to Peddie and his warped sense of hockey management.

The problem is Peddie.

I am a die hard Leaf fan but enough is enough. Blow the team up, do not go to the games for as long as the Leaf money making machine keeps making money they will do nothing to fix the problems
Art A. Graber, 2008-01-14 16:06:41

yes the laffs should blow up there line up they suck as it is and they arent going to get any better if they dont take chances the only good player it sundin and even he is prety crapy they should trade him for someone like thorton or sakic but they will probly reject and even if you dumb laffs fan think hes the best laff ever thorton is still a hell of a lot better and heill be the best laff ever!
