What should the Leafs do?
Tue, January 8, 2008

The Maple Leafs felt like throwing a hockey stick through the television following last night's 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, preferably at the big HD screen at National Hockey League headquarters in Toronto.

But angry Nik Antropov took the team's anger at a costly overtime penalty and three video replay reversals the hardest, hurling his stick towards referees Mike Leggo and Don Koharski after Rod Brind'Amour netted the game-winner.

Forget about throwing hockey sticks. What about throwing in the towel on the season? What should the Leafs do before the trade deadline? Have your say in our forum.

Marilyn, nice to see you've left the "Dark Side" and are coming over to the "Light" (read Habs). But you know what, as much as I love Les Canadiens, they are still a 2nd line away and some decent size up front from becoming a serious contender in the playoffs.

Having said that, no team can be seen as the clear-cut favourite in the East this year. Pittsburgh's D and goaltending are still a work in progress, as are Ottawa's. NJ has Brodeur and little else, and both the Rangers and Philadelphia have had weaknesses exposed recently. It will likely all come down to who makes the best deadline deals - and we all know what a crap-shoot that is!

Tight playoff potential chases all over the nhl, and again all we get is the leafs. Throw in the towel, I thought they had. Lets close this circus and talk about anything but this joke. the joke isn;t funny once you hear the same punchline a 100 times. Paul Maurice said " we will be tough to play against" maybe if you are a peewee team.

Why dont you guys write about something other then the "Last Place Pathetic Leafs"? Who cares about them, they are loosers. You have some interesting races going on in the NHL and arr I hear from your corner is Matt Sundin and the Leafs. They are dead so lets burry them. You guys are why everyone hates the Leafs.

Four power play goals against them... no scoring on a minute advantage 5 on 3...sorry to say the Leafs are more than done this season...rest Toskala...put Raycroft in...and for god sakes trade all those lazy, overpaid, old players...get the first draft pick...and just maybe we can look forward to some real hockey next year....playoff team to watch - Montreal Canadiens...GO HABS GO....

Bring up all the Marlies - at least they win and try

Hey, I am not one to kick a horse when it's down so I won't do the same of the leafs. they did beat Ottawa recently so there is hope. This is just the regular season anyway. I suggest though after this season...Let Sundin retire or leave the team and fire Tucker...

remember paul maurices comment at the end of training camp "we are going to be a hard team to play against" hehehehe they should of thrown in the towel then...

The Leafs are done. There is no chance they will make the playoffs this season. With Ferguson gone, it is time Fletcher starts some major wheeling and dealing. Guys like McCabe, Antropov and Raycroft need to dropped like a bad habit. And what is up with Sundin? A guy with his talent should be begging to traded to a contender, and the Leafs could use the propects they get for him to rebuild a floundering organization. The Leafs haven't won a Cup since '67, and, if they continue to down the path they are taking, it will be 2067 before they win another. I say trade players now and rebuild the Leafs to give Toronto fans something to cheer about.

Well, they don't have to throw in the towel really do they? This team can probably try its hardest from now till the end of the season and still end up dead last. So, it's sort of a moot point. It's about time Maurice took some of the blame too. This Leafs team has one of the worst power play and penalty killing units in the league, and they are both aspects of the game that are coached and practiced on a regular basis. The special teams are constantly losing games, and tonights loss the the Islanders is a prime example. The penalty killing has to be a lot more aggressive. Forming a box and playing passively while the other team rifles shots on your goalie is a recipe for disaster. You can't sit back and let teams attack you in the NHL these days. Maurice has to get his players to shoot on the power play and if they won't, it's his job to put players out there who will.

LOL John R. Either that's a classic case of stating the asinine, in the faint hope that you can hark back to it IF the Leafs ever did pull of a miracle and say "see - I called it", or claim to have been "tongue-in-cheek" when they miss for the 3rd straight year - OR, you've been omitting your medications.
