Should the Feds fund pond hockey?
Tue, October 9, 2007

The federal and New Brunswick governments are giving almost $400,000 to the World Pond Hockey Championships for a permanent home and new promotional materials.

The new funding will result in the construction of a multi-purpose shelter to house equipment and the purchase of another shelter to accommodate event volunteers, participants and spectators.

If pond hockey is truly a world class event as our friend from the Nanny state of Maritimers says ,why is it necessary for Canadian Taxes to go into this venture.Thats the problem with socialism Stephen, even a good idea that can fly on it's own still has to be funded by taxes, and that's why your living in a "Have Not province" Comrade.

Why is it that when the government of Canada contributes to some worthwhile venture in the Maritimes it is considered a crime by, of all people, the richest citizens of the whole country...people from Ontario and the west. The World Pond Hockey Championship is truely a world class event deserving of all levels of government's investment. Don't beleive me...come and see for yourself.

Whatever happened to kids just picking up their sticks, putting on their skates and going to the nearest pond?

Why does everything have to be made so organized and costly?

Kids need something to do, but the parents can do the organizing or the older kids.

When I was young, we had a ditch with frozen water that we played hockey on.

wayne read the story, its right here above where we comment. It says where the 400k will go.

Government should be asking the question "where can we cut spending?" .. no exceptions.
Jeff, 2007-10-10 10:53:36

finally governments are funding something worth while. our kids need something more to do than take drugs and play video games
Martys, 2007-10-09 21:34:03

We used to play hockey for free on ponds. Now it costs $400K?
wayne, 2007-10-09 21:01:49

Funding pond hockey is brilliant. It's a low cost way to get kids out onto the ice. Look around - the nation is gaining weight at a frightening rate. The money spent on sports will pay enormous dividends decades down the road through healthier adults and lower health care costs.

How about funds for the sick people? Or for our deteriorating roads?

How stupid can these people be anyway?
