If you're a sports fan, they are the men who can sometimes make or break the sports-watching experience – play-by-play announcers.

There’s a fair share of duds – guys whose sole purpose in life seems to be to annoy the viewer – who can single-handedly break the experience for some fans. But there are some who we just love to listen to, who can turn a snoozefest of a game into ratings winner, whose familiar voice can be comforting, like visiting with an old friend.

Bob Cole?!!! are you kidding me? he's absolutely brutal! he frequently misidentifies players and often doesn't know why there's a stoppage in play... he's got the benefit of being able to see all the officials while I'm limited to those in the camera shot yet I know he gets the call wrong many times... and for those who claim his voice still *sounds* good so they forgive the errors, then why not just watch the game while listening to opera arias?...

Bar none, the best announcer ever is Don Criqui. A staple for NBC doing BBall. Curt Gowdy gets the nod for Baseball. Danny Gallivan and Jim Hughson for Hockey. Verne Lundquist for Golf and in the 70's nobody better than Pat Summerall for FBall. Cheers from a sports wacko!!!!!!!!!

For hockey, Cole is great but Joe Bowen is the best by a mile. Jim Hughson???, ah why is he on the list???
