Should the Yankees fire Joe Torre?
Sun, October 7, 2007

George Steinbrenner says Joe Torre most likely won't return to the New York Yankees unless they overcome their deficit against the Cleveland Indians and reach the AL championship series.

Should the Yankees fire Joe Torre if they lose to the Indians?

George Steinbrenner has become his own caricature. Joe Torre being snatched up by another team would be fantastic for baseball. Fire him George!

I like Joe, hate George, so hurry up and lose New York. Along with your boss you are all a bunch of crybabies. You don't deserve a class act like Joe. If he wants to he'll be able to work anywhere he wants.

Of course Steinbrenner is classless. He owns the Yankees! Talk about arrogance. Does he not realize that Cleveland is a better team than the Yankees. New York is after all the wildcard team! They should expect to be the underdog. Joe Torre is a quality guy. It is a shame that he has allowed himself to be associated with such a low class baseball organization as the New York Yankees for all these years. Prior to coming to NY he had distinguished himself as a player and manager in St Louis for goodness sakes! One of the finest baseball organizations in the world! Toronto would do well to grab him and let him restore his reputation with a reputable team!

George Steinbrenner cannot stand being out of the limelight, similar to the buffoon, former Maple Leaf owner Harold Ballard.

Joe Torre's record as manager of New York Yankees has earned him the right to decide his own retirement date. Name me a more successful baseball man in MLB over the last two decades.

It's nearly a miracle that the Bronx Bombers got to the playoff round with the battered, injured and patchwork pitching staff he molded into a winning combination.

Of course not. But just in case, Paul Godfrey and JP should put Torre's number on their speed dial so they can start courting him the moment it happens.

Steinbrenner is classless. You don't say that in the press before a big game. Now the Yankees are distracted and will lose in 3. Steinbrenner should be the one out of the picture. Time to retire, George!
