Should the Yankees fire Joe Torre?
Sun, October 7, 2007

George Steinbrenner says Joe Torre most likely won't return to the New York Yankees unless they overcome their deficit against the Cleveland Indians and reach the AL championship series.

Should the Yankees fire Joe Torre if they lose to the Indians?

Steinbrenner low balled Torre so he would walk away, that way Steinbrenner doesnt look like the bad guy.

It was an insulting offer to a man that guided the Yankees to the playoffs 10 + years in a row and won 4 world series.

Torre wont be out of work long, he will have his pick of where he ends up.

As you know by now it wasn't a firing, it was a walk away. After all the hype of him being in Florida for a major signing and then this, Cashman should be ashamed of himself, and step down. George will always be an idiot, knowing him he'll try and sign Billy Martin again. After all this I hope he signs on with anyone but the Yankees, however I feel another talk is in the works, to bad for Joe. Joe show your worth and sign with a team that can use your knowledge of the game, Cubs would be a good fit, however they have a good manager. Man do I wish the Expos were still in the league about now.....

Does it even matter who manages the Yankees? They will always be a collection of overpaid prima donnas who can't get it done. Torre is a good manager and will definitely land on his feet. Steinbrenner would be a fool to let him go. Actually, he's a fool anyway.

I think Torre will be let go unjustifiably.

Man, if I were Ricciardi, I'd be on the phone to Torre as soon as possible if Torre gets fired.

The Blue Jays need a good manager.

I would keep him. It's not a bad time to part company with him under usual circumstances but I would want him to be the first manager at the new Yankee Stadium in 2009. Give him a 2 year deal.

The real test of Torre's worth will come after Big Stein fires him (and I'm not certain he'll follow through with the threat). Joe Torre is a quality manager. No one can match his record in the last decade or so. Torre will be unemployed for just the number of days he wants to be after his time with the Yankees ends. I'll wager he has 20 offers on the table within 2 weeks of becoming available. And who will take over the Yankees ? Can't imagine that seems like a plum job after the way Torre has been "rewarded" for four world championships and 13 straight playoff appearances. Tim Johnson seems like the logical choice...

I think Joe lost game 2 for them. Rookie pitcher, first playoff game, bug plauge, no question that Chamberlain was rattled. Since Rivera pitched 2 innings that game anyway, why not bring him in at signs of trouble in the 8th and maybe he keeps the 1 run lead. Even if they didn't, he would have went with Rivera when the game was on the line while he still had a lead.

There is hardly anyone --- even Boston Red Sox fans --- who will knock Torre for the Yankees losing. Any other team would love to have this guy on their side.

The star players didn't show up in the playoffs. That ain't management. They won't get rid of those high priced stars, because they fill the stands, even when they fail in three games. So some one always takes the fall. Thats Yankees history. You get the big bucks, you take the big fall.

Maybe it would be a blessing in diguise for Mr.Torre. If he were let go he wouldnt be out of work very long. He would have his pick of any team he wants.

Who knows its a long shot but maybe he would come to Toronto if things dont work out in New York.
