Are the Pens a legitimate Cup threat?
Fri, October 5, 2007
The Pittsburgh Penguins' core players remain implausibly young, yet seem to get better nearly every day.

Sidney Crosby, already a league MVP, scoring champion and two-time 100-point scorer, is only 20.

Some hockey writers are predicting Pittsburgh to win it all this season. Are the Pens a legitimate Cup threat?

No, Pittsburgh is not a Cup threat right now.

Give them a couple of years and they will be. Their defence is too porous right now and Fleury needs more experience to get better.

... depends... Do they get to play four rounds of playoffs against the Leafs? No? Then, give them a year or two... they'll be right there.

No not yet. In another year or 2 they will be. They still need another goal scorer and another top defenceman. They are getting better and closer every year.
