Is Dany Heatley worth $45M?
Wed, October 3, 2007

Dany Heatley didn't take long to prove he'll be worth every penny of his new US$45-million, six-year deal with the Ottawa Senators.

Heatley's second goal of the game 2:57 into overtime gave the Senators a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. He'd reached agreement with management on the lucrative contract extension just hours before.

Is Dany Heatley worth $45M? Have your say in our forum.

Why does any fan care what a player makes, if the team wants to pay them millions so be it.It's not any money out of my poocket, because I stopped going to games years ago, $80 for a cheap seat,$13 for a beer, driving for an hour and pay parking , plus having to buy dinner. I can definatly think of better ways to spend $250,for a lot better entertainment

Absolutely. As my sportsminded wife points out, his efforts getting back on defense alone add to his value. Secondly, his assists to Alf & Spez are key. And thirdly of course, his goal scoring average. There's a real strong family of players who hopefully (with good goal tending) can bring home the cup.

To Kevin R and Tom V...I'm sure both of you are paragons of virtue and hence have the full reasoning to judge a man on the sins of his past.

You're both foolish.

Quite frankly no one is worth this kind of money, especially someone who should be in jail. If half his contract is going to the family of Dan Snyder and half to MAAD or some other tradgedy, then at that point he is worth every penny.

Its definitely a steal for Sens.

A better question is "is Vanek worth his salary, Briere, or Drury? I believe Heatly is worth more than the above, with the exception possibly of Drury because of his leadership and experience. You've got to look at the contracts signed by Thorton and Iginla in the off season, and think, not too much of a "hometown" discount, but a pretty good deal. Lets hope he just keeps getting better, and that we can lock up Spezza for the same term!

Yes.

No I think heatley is worth more than $ 45 million! He is an awesome 2 way player that had back to back 50 goal years and will score 50 again this year. If the Sens hasnt gotten a deal done before the summer he could have gotten $ 9 or $ 10 million a year this summer.

Heatley deserves every penny he gets. The Sens made the right choice by signing Heatley instead of Spezza, no offence to him but Heatley is the best winger and one of the best forwards in the league.

Play making centres are easier to get but a 50 goal scorer is alot harder to come by.

Given the current market, if they had waited until the end of the season the team would most likely had to compete with offers in the $10 million range. Signing him now for this money, in this market, is a great deal.

However, players in all the major sports, in my opinion, are vastly over paid.

He should be in jail for killing Dan Snyder.
