Is Dany Heatley worth $45M?
Wed, October 3, 2007

Dany Heatley didn't take long to prove he'll be worth every penny of his new US$45-million, six-year deal with the Ottawa Senators.

Heatley's second goal of the game 2:57 into overtime gave the Senators a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. He'd reached agreement with management on the lucrative contract extension just hours before.

Is Dany Heatley worth $45M? Have your say in our forum.

I agree with Craig about the Snyder's. But by market value alone, this guy is underpaid.

Apparently a lot of people aren't as forgiving as the Snyder family. They must never have done anything stupid when they were young so that they are now free to cast stones. I can only imagine how Heatley must feel being responsible for the death of one of his best friends and I find it admirable that he has gotten his life back on track.

No, he nor any other NHL player is not worth this kind of money but until people stop filling the arenas they will continue to get paid more and more.

No one's worth that kind of money, not the least some young fella playing a stipid sport. I pity the dumb fans who waste their time and money on hockey games. This guy should be in prison not free to 'earn' this kind of money

And crawling out of the woodwork come those yabos who will keep dragging up the fatal accident in Atlanta. The Snyder family has come to terms with it, why can't you morons? And why do I get the impression that, had he signed with the Leafs you'd be pushing one another out of the way to kiss his butt. Same with Alfie. Still being booed in Toronto because of a hit years ago on that little angel Tucker. Think if he was on the right side of Sundin right about now you'd still be booing him? Do you not think that only motivates him to score against the Leafs? Heatley can read as well, which might explain his 16 goals in 17 games against the Leafs.

I hope 1/2 that money goes to the Snyder family.
Craig H, 2007-10-04 10:57:50

The Sens made a very good business decision by signing Heatley now. If they waited until the summer and he gets another 50 goals this year he would be $ 10,000,000 a year.

The Synder family has forgiven Heatley so everyone else should to. They were best friends he didnt do it on purpose. Accidents happen and unfortunately Dan Synder died because of it. It is something he Heatley will have to live with for the rest of his life. Im sure there isnt a day that goes by and he doesnt think horrific night.

Every pro athlete is overpaid.

However, given the salaries players earn, Heatley is indeed worth $45 million, and there isn't one team in the NHL that wouldn't have Dany Heatley on the roster at that price. He'll be hoisting a Stanley Cup in Ottawa soon.
Ben, 2007-10-04 10:43:43

how can you people say that any professional athlete is worth between 40-90000 $ a game?

I don't care what sport it is.

he scored 2 goals in the third period and made more in that game than most do all year. All the lock-out did was give more money to the players.
Matt, 2007-10-04 10:35:02

Ottawa needs him.46 million's a lotta money, but if one compares his salary to other players of, roughly the same caliber, then he's worth it!

Rupert & Vail...Perhaps you two righteous winners were lucky enough to go through life, without having some devastating accident that will impact you lives forever, but some people are not that fortunate.
