Dany Heatley didn't take long to prove he'll be worth every penny of his new US$45-million, six-year deal with the Ottawa Senators.
Heatley's second goal of the game 2:57 into overtime gave the Senators a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night. He'd reached agreement with management on the lucrative contract extension just hours before.
Is Dany Heatley worth $45M? Have your say in our forum.
If you think your comments about Heatley's new contract are funny think again.

Heatley is a elite forward, one of the best in the NHL. I think he will get 50 goals again this year so he will be a three time 50 goal scorer. To me even this new contract he is underpaid seeing that McCabe the useless one in his own end makes $ 7.15 million a year. He deserves every dollar he can get. He also backchecks and is a solid two way player. In a year or two he will be underpaid.
As far as the acident involving Dan Synder, it was just that. The two of them were best friends, Heatley wasnt drinking or on drugs. Dan's family has forgiven Heatley so we all should to.

All contracts are in US dollars. Heatley is hardly stupid for signing with Ottawa. They are a very good team and will be for many years to come.
If he signed with the Make Me Laffs in the summer that would be stupid.

Mr Heatley was never charged for impaired driving. He was only guilty of being a young kid who made a mistake, so give it a rest, as I'm sure yo never made a mistake in your life

Heatley is one of the best forwards in the entire league. He had back to back 50 goal seasons and will get 50 again this year. If he waited until the summer he could have got more money. It looks like he left room for the Sens to sign Spezza this summer.
Next year or the year after Heatley will be under paid. Great move by the Sens.
James, 2007-10-04 16:46:18
Heatley is worth it, and what he did in to Dan Snyder was an accident, and they happen, but this is a great deal for the Sens and a steal. Consider if he keeps this up and they get Spezza, they'll bring the cup home and keep it here!
and yes they're overpayed but they are the best!
Jake Berube, 2007-10-04 15:26:42
stupid heatley, signing for U.S. dollars and not Canadian....wtf??? ding dong....so I guess he's not worth $45 mil after all...ha ha ha...GO LEAFS GO!!!!
Wayne R, 2007-10-04 15:02:23
He's on the eve of back to back to back 50 goal seasons. The Sens have locked up the world's most consistent goal scorer for the next 6 years at 7.5 mil a year. It's a great deal now. Bring this up in 2-4 years when salaries have risen even more and tell me he's not an absolute steal.
