Bob, what public humiliation do you see? I see Grapes once in a while trying to get in a jab and Ron running circles around him. In a battle of wits, Cherry "brings a knife to a gunfight" and MacLean puts him in his place. He is the perfect foil for Cherry's good old '50s sentimentalism about the game.

They are (he and Cherry) both supposed to present a pragmatic, honest, objective look at hockey in general without resorting to any personal bias, especially with six Canadian-based clubs and their salaries being paid by ALL Canadian taxpayers, however indirectly. And yet they continue to fawn all over the Leafs (much like the two yahoos up in the broadcast both), seeing promise where none exists. Put Bob McCown and Steve Simmons in their spots and then, perhaps, we'll finally begin to hear honest, straightforward commentary without the blue-and-white pom-poms waving.

MacLean has come a long way from merely being the weatherguy for CKRD TV in Red Deer. It's been 25 years, but Whalin' Ed Whalen @ CFAC in Calgary was the one guy who saw something in MacLean's audition tape as an in-between periods TV host for Flames games after Jim VanHorne bolted over to a new TV concept called TSN. A year later, it all took a pencil-flipping ouster to Dave Hodge as CBC eschewed overtime to resume normal broadcasting one fine evening. In life you often make your own breaks, but sometimes a little luck shines in. MacLean, more than most, knows all about good weather!

Who else would accept the public humiliation heaped on him weekly by Mr Cherry? Fred and Barney, Ralph and Norton, Don and Ron...congrats
