Dean McAmmond was taken off the ice on a stretcher and transported to hospital after suffering a concussion following a dirty hit to the head 2:39 into the second period by Philly's Steve Downie.
Downie, who was drafted in the first round by the Flyers in the 2005, earned a reputation with the OHL's Peterborough Petes and Kitchener Rangers for being a hit-and-run artist.
Do you think Downie is a hit-and-run artist, or a gritty forward who always finishes his checks? Should he be suspended for the hit? Have your say in our forum.
Hey Downie, heads up
One way or another, Downie will get what's coming to him.
But McGratton and the Sens better watch themselves. Remember the Bertuzzi hit on Steve Moore? There are a lot of parallels here so far as it was Moore's hit on Naslund that started it all.
The Sens better deal with this internally right now and move on, or else this situation is going to get much worse.

Like I said in a previous post, the penalty should be maximum 5 games. Pronger gets 1 and 1 for two similar infractions in the playoffs last year - how can you go more than 5 for Downie if there's to be any kind of consistency.
I agree too that McAmmond shares the blame for his injury - if he wasn't busy admiring his pass, he could have avoided or minimized the impact of the hit.

I'll go back to my point of Scott Stevens - I personally think he was one of the dirtiest players...clean hits, dirty intents, but he was a grizzled veteran and an all-star, Downie is a rookie.

Bye-bye Havlat and Neil.
The hypocrites run the asylum.

Same old thing as last year again - a sen was hit so it is a major crime. Remember during the playoffs last year a certain Sen player that would charge at players with both elbows up - the comments? What a nice hit!! Hopefully having a baby will calm him down this year.
Its time the suits stopped trying to deal with things as everytime they introduce a new rule to solve a problem things get worse. Get rid of fighting - sticks came into use. Get rid of checking - butts and elbows back in style. Pretty easy to slip those in and not get caught - just ask the master Gordie Howe.

He is a loose cannon and one of these days he will hurt someone so bad they will be in a wheelchair for the rest of there life.
Give him at least 15 - 20 games with a stern warning any future hits like that will be 40 - 50 games or even a 1 year suspension.
