Did you follow the offer Basillie made to the Preds ? His offer was $ 40 million more than the franchise was worth. If that is bad business for the owners then they are fools. It would have drove up all the franchises values.
Its Bettman screwing Canada over for whatever his personal problem is with us.

Ray
Bettman is telling the owners not to let any teams come here ( Canada ).
If the NHL ever asked for owners to apply for expansion / relocation in Canada there would be more than enough businessmen apply.
Bettman is the 1 and only reason why we are getting stiffed. That is why Mr.Basillie went public about being the raw deal with Nashville. It was to let the owners know what Bettman was doing to him and maybe the owners would tell Bettman to butt out and let Mr.Basillie make a deal.

Why not play games in Europe cant do any worse than games in most american cities.
Jimmy, 2007-09-30 16:26:01
Bettman won't allow more Canadian teams or the owners won't, James. He's just the voice of the owners.Because Canadians are to cheap to buy a team we are destined to follow the U.S.
Ray, 2007-09-29 15:19:10
Why not play games in Europe? It clearly isn't working in many of the U.S. cities.
Russ K,, 2007-09-27 23:05:57
The league is a mess and getting worse every day. Bettman has to go and the sooner the better.
Two thirds of american teams dont sell out so Bettman should be trying to fix the problems in his own backyard before talking about expansion and playing more games in Europe.
Mike, 2007-09-26 11:41:22
Since Bettman wont let Canada have another NHL team or two they should move 5 or 6 teams to Europe to form a division. Some teams that are in trouble like Florida Panthers, Atlanta Thrashers, NY Islanders, Carolina Hurricanes, St.Louis Blues, LA Kings.
That way they can guage the interest and see if it will really work or not.
James, 2007-09-25 14:20:46
Firstly move at least 2 southern US teams to Canada, Winipeg , Hamilton and Quebec City come to mind. Then, secondly, think of expanding to Europe. You would have a way better fan base in Canada where hockey is KING.

Bettman be gone!!!
Peggi, 2007-09-24 12:09:48
I have two opinions. First, I think Bettman has got to go, no matter where the NHL expands or redistributes its south U.S. teams. Clearly Europe has highly skilled players in elite leagues, but will the hockey fans embrace another competing league? I also think the two conferences should play each other a lot more. And move those U.S. teams where whose fan base is so thin as to make it laughable.
