Will the Leafs make the playoffs?
Wed, September 26, 2007

The Toronto Maple Leafs are skating into the NHL season with a new mindset and it is going to make a difference.

A year ago, they set their collective goal low. They talked about having to plug away in a dogfight for a playoff spot and, with injuries playing no small role, they fell just short for the second year in a row.

Leafs keep familiar cast

The Maple Leafs should make the playoffs, but that's not saying much.

Compete for the Stanley Cup? Doesn't every team do that?

Maurice is not really saying much, just giving his team something to aim at which is a little higher this year, since they should be a better team - and Montreal and NY Islanders have gone down.

I sincerely hope they do so I can watch my beloved Senators kick their butts finally!

Any chance he's willing to bet his job? Not going to happen Paul.....might want to leave the golf clubs out and continue to use the practice facilities in the local dome.

There are a lot of naysayers in here. There is no reason to think the Leafs won't make the play-offs this year. Even last year they flirted with 8th place through tons of injuries and a less talented lineup than this year. Winning the cup is quite a long shot, but teams that have crawled into the post-season have surprised before - anybody remember Calgary?

The Leafs aren't as bad as you Leaf bashers would like. Lets see... Ottawa will choke (as always) Montreal stinks (this isn't the 72 series) the Canucks remind me of the Leaf's Cujo years (painfully remind me where that went)... and the Alberta teams? No chance... GO LEAFS GO! Someone's gotta bring it home to Canada!

The Leafs have as much a chance of winning the Stanley Cup as I do of winning the 6/49 lottery this Saturday night.

I had to laugh when I saw Maurice on tv saying the Leafs will make the playoffs and compete for the Stanley Cup, so I have to ask, is smoking pot legal now in Toronto ? LOL

Promises, promises, promises. I was 10 years old the last time the Leafs won and appeared in a Stanley Cup Final...I will be 51 this season...and I'm still waiting! Promises, promises, promises! I’ll believe it when I see it!

Yes, the Leafs will make the playoffs and contend for the Stanley Cup. What is the matter with you Leaf fans anyway. We have to get behind our team. The only reason they didn't make the playoffs last year was because of the enormous amount of injuries that they suffered. They missed it by 1 lousy point, not bad for a team with so many man games lost to injury. Yes it is frustrating, but damn it they try to do the best for the fans and that is what we should do for them. Show them that we care. Make some damn noise at the games, don't just sit there with your hands between your knees. It's not there fault they don't have the manpower and it also isn't John Ferguson Jr's fault. He doesn't have the authority to do what needs to be done. Top management is to blame for that. Look what happened to the team when Cliff Fletcher was in charge, he got the players that he needed. He basically was his own man and didn't need to ask for anything and he did a great job. Let Ferguson do the same and you will see a difference in the team. So get off the players backs and put the pressure on top Leaf management to allow this team to be better.

The Leafs are kind of like the goofballs who pay $200-plus to watch them lose - a big disappointment and a huge waste of money

Cheer a real team, like the Sens

GO SENS!
