Will the Leafs make the playoffs?
Wed, September 26, 2007

The Toronto Maple Leafs are skating into the NHL season with a new mindset and it is going to make a difference.

A year ago, they set their collective goal low. They talked about having to plug away in a dogfight for a playoff spot and, with injuries playing no small role, they fell just short for the second year in a row.

Leafs keep familiar cast

Good call Scott, I to like Washington as a playoff team this year.

The team I am really interested in watching will be the Flyers, Holmgren did a great job with trades and free agent signings. They can be a serious threat this year if Biron has a good year which I think he will.

The Leafs wont make the playoffs again this year, defence is still horrible. Sundin is slowing down as we all saw down the stretch when he didnt score for 19 games.

yes, the leafs will make the playoffs, in spite of gm ferguson,d mc cabe, and the nancy boy's players!

there is plenty off on ice talent & a good coach.

I cant see the Leafs making the playoffs with that horrible defence. McCabe is lost in his own end, Kaberle needs to be more physical in the corners and in front of the net and Kubina looked like a pylon last year.

I say washington has a better chance of making the playoffs this year than the Leafs do. Washington signed a few good free agents and will have Backstrom ( last years # 1 pick ) setting up Ovechkin. Washington is an up and coming team with good young talent.

JFJ didnt have enough experience I believe. He was an assistant gm in St.Louis for what a year and a half, thats not nearly enough time to become a gm. Also it sure doesnt help when he has Peddie and the others breathing down his neck every day. The Leafs will never be a winner until Peddie and the board hire a respected gm and take a hands off approach which I dont know if that will ever happen as long as the teachers pension group is involved. We all know that they only care about making money and dont care if the team makes the playoffs or not. The way things stand now it would be hard for anyone to really put in a plan of rebuilding everything from the ground up.

Kudos to Mats. My earliest recollectioin of the Leafs is about 1974. He's right up there with Sittler. You can only do so much without experienced line mates and average goaltending. Don't forget....they lost more mangames to injury than any other team last year.....haven't faired much better in recent years prior....bin a real hard luck team on the injury front.

Once again Feguson overpaid for a mediocre 3rd rate player....the fans might like Tucker but a "goal scorer" ? I think not...let me know when he scores a goal five on five....you are right Steverino.....this team has no pure goal scorer, no depth, lacking skill ...stanley cup? playoffs? uhuh.....last place for this bunch

No the Leafs will not make the playoffs this year. There defence is still easily the worst in the league. Sundin isnt a leader and never has he been. When Sweden won it was Forsberg leading them not Sundin. Leafs made a mistake bringing him back and giving him $5.5 million, when this contract expires let him go and start going after younger, faster players. No goals down the stretch when the Leafs really needed his " offence " says it all as far as I am concerned. The Leafs are slow and old, a bore to watch quite honestly. Thank god they arent the only team I have to watch because if there were they would completely turn me off watching hockey.

they should have been their last year, the injury bug the leafs are solid from the goal out with added scoring punch, you bet they will be there GO LEAFS GO!!!!

If D'Arcy "hey look at me" tucker is their only "goal scorer"....leafs are really up the creek..Little squirt Blake will help a little. But there is no depth on this team....no legit sniper....and a porous defense that could be the worst in the league. Not much hope for the playoffs here......although we all know they will give 100%. i can't think of any team that is worse than them.....Florida? Washington? Boston....they will be battling the Leafs for last place.
steverino, 2007-09-14 13:50:53

only if Sundin fakes an injury... Last 5 years the only time they win a playoff series is when sundin fakes being injured, he then hurries back and they loose
