Will the Leafs make the playoffs?
Wed, September 26, 2007

The Toronto Maple Leafs are skating into the NHL season with a new mindset and it is going to make a difference.

A year ago, they set their collective goal low. They talked about having to plug away in a dogfight for a playoff spot and, with injuries playing no small role, they fell just short for the second year in a row.

Leafs keep familiar cast

Are you kidding ,do you think with only three player changes on this roster the leafs will be a better team.its the same old core of players that will fail again. With fergie been with the leafs the last five years where have the leafs ended up ,you guess it last place.

Oh I sure hope so then we can hear how great the leafs are for the next 40 years instead of how pathetic

There will be a lot of pressure on a lot of Leafs this year. Fergie, Coach Mo, could do really well because they'll get canned if they don't make the playoffs.

Sundin could have a strong season because he is playing with a one year-contract. But, I think Toskala had a much stronger group of D-men playing in front of him in SJ. So it will be interesting to see how strong he is with guys like Gil, and White.

Jimmy

You are bang on, the Leafs front office is dysfunctional lol. The Scotty Bowmans and John Mucklers wont come to Toronto because its in such a mess.

I feel for the Leaf fans who are dieing for a true cup contender, they deserve it for the way they have supported them for the last 40 odd years.

The Leafs need a front office that are all on the same page, which we all know they arent. Until then either they all start getting along or there is a change at the top the Leafs will never win a cup. Its a dysfunctional group in the boardroom and nothing will change any time soon.

Go Sens, Habs, Flames, Oilers and Canucks.

I agree with Glen. There is too much hands on approach with Richard Peddie and the board. The board cant even make up there minds, half wanted JFJ out other half wants to keep him. They will never be a true cup contender until things change at the top and they hire a hockey man to run everything and take a hands off approach. But until then its fight every year just to try to squeeze in for the 8th playoff spot.

I also agree with Glen and Scott about Washington making the playoffs this year. They have good young talent and Kolzig in net so I wouldnt be surprised if this is the year they get in.

No GM can have any success running the Leafs with this current group in control. JFJ has his hands pretty much tied by Richard Peddie and the board so we shouldnt expect a stanley cup in Toronto until things change on how things are run.
Glen, 2007-09-18 14:16:19

I like the Leafs to make the post pre-season this year.
Steve McNeil, 2007-09-17 14:57:15

Yes, he needs an advisor. He's the George W. Bush of General Managers. But thankfully, he works for the Maple Laffs.
