Will the Leafs make the playoffs?
Wed, September 26, 2007

The Toronto Maple Leafs are skating into the NHL season with a new mindset and it is going to make a difference.

A year ago, they set their collective goal low. They talked about having to plug away in a dogfight for a playoff spot and, with injuries playing no small role, they fell just short for the second year in a row.

Leafs keep familiar cast

who really cares they fill the ACC and thats what it is all about.. they could go 0 wins 80 losses and they would still fill the seats..maybe if the torontonians stay away and the corporations not renew their tickets maybe then they will look at bettering the team and the leafs might have a shot...another thing the divisions are a joke there are better teams out in the playoffs then in.. they should go back to the old way you play each other the same amount of times and the top 16 make the playoffs first playing 16 second playing 15 and so on........

NO, man I can't believe how clueless some people are. They were lucky to get so close last year. What the leafs need to do is not even look towards next year, but maybe 5 years down the road. Get rid of some of those so called star players for draft picks and begin rebuilding. You cant by your teams any longer. It really is not that difficult guys

HAhahahahaha i cant stop laughing at some of these comments. Only the Leafs Nation gets this much (good and bad) attention, i swear, there is nothing else in this world like it.

Honestly i dont care what happens with the leafs. If they win, fantastic, if they dont no sweat off of my back as my everyday life still remains the same... but i must say, watch out. Don't judge them when its only preseason and the fact that last nights game was the only game that they stunk in. The rest of the games have been one goal differences which includes them playing ottawa who was starting pretty much their whole lineup when the leafs had most of their rookies in and or they are not even using their regular lines. That can be looked at in different ways mind you, but i think its funny to see so many calling them out already.

i have been saying it for 2 yrs now. NO way do they make the playoffs with JFJ. just because his father played hockey, does not mean he knows anything about hockey, and his last two years have proved that. he must go.

what other team in the NHL would reward a GM by giving him another year on his contract with missing the playoffs two years in a row.

this would certainly not happen in any of the other major cities.

T.O. needs a hcokey man up front and JFJ or Peddie are not the ones.

NO, I don't believe they'll make the playoffs. They can't win with the same slow players. They need players who will show up every game.

Does anyone remember the Boston Bruins' 1979 Game 7 loss to the Montreal Canadiens where the Bruins were leading 4-3 late in the 3rd period & were less than 2 min from a win? Then, Boston was called for a too-many-men-on-the-ice, Guy Lafleur forces overtime & Yvon Lambert's goal in overtime sent Montreal to the finals (to their 4th straight Stanley Cup title). Do you remember the crowd, suspense, excitement, sweat, tears, history!? Well, for the last 40+ yrs the Maple Leaf organization hasn't had that. Not even when Sittler and Salming played. The Leafs suck. There are no all-stars. After being in a position of power & decision-making, you think the roster would have been gutted from top to bottom a long time ago. This current team sucks. It proves ownership wants a Walmart team; a low-cost product with players who will never see their names inscribed on the Stanley Cup?

First of all,you need a TEAM to make the playoffs,NOT a bunch of "has been",or "never-be".

JFJ must be replaced. Like his father, may he rest in peace, JFJ cannot make the difference between a good hockey player and a bad one. Don't they scout the players they bring in? Every one of JFJ's moves prove my point. If a player asks for $3M then JFJ feels he must play like $3M. Back up the truck, Antropov, McCabe, Stajan, Ponikarovsky, Kubina must all go. JFJ should be in the driver's seat. Worst team in a decade. I see 13 wins and 18 losses (season over) before JFJ is canned.

I hope Leaf fans won't be taken in by the usual propaganda. The organization says the Leafs will make the playoffs by pointing out the relative weakness of some conference rivals, but they have problems of their own. This is a mediocre team at best with questionable goaltending, a slow and porous defence, a group of forwards that lack depth and scoring punch, and a disturbing propensity for injuries. While there is plenty of blame to go around for the state of this franchise, John Ferguson Jr., now entering his fifth season as GM, must shoulder most of the responsibility. His trading and drafting has been questionable at best and his other player acquisitions have been primarily third or fourth additions. But JFJ was hired by MLSEL which is operated by a group of men who clearly don't know how to build a winner, and because of never-ending profits, don't have to. I hope I'm wrong, but I see another long, frustrating season in the wilderness for the blue and white.

What other team in the NHL would have a player like Antropov on their first line... the team has not made the play-offs since JFJ took over with exception of the first year which was still essentially Quinn's team... need I say more
