Will the Leafs make the playoffs?
Wed, September 26, 2007

The Toronto Maple Leafs are skating into the NHL season with a new mindset and it is going to make a difference.

A year ago, they set their collective goal low. They talked about having to plug away in a dogfight for a playoff spot and, with injuries playing no small role, they fell just short for the second year in a row.

Leafs keep familiar cast

The three biggest mistakes the Leafs have made in the last 10 + years are : trading Wendel Clark for Mats ( floater ) Sundin, giving Sundin that $ 56 million US contract and making him captain!

Clark was the heart and soul of the Leafs, he fought, threw his weight around every night, went into the corners and took alot of abuse in front of the net.

Sundin floats around the ice waiting for a break away pass. He is lost in his own end. Only time he ever had over 100 points in one year was in Quebec when he had Sakic and Forsberg carrying him!

Look who Quebec traded of the 3 centres they had. They knew Sakic and Forsberg were the best 2 centres and stole Clarke from the Leafs.

Sundin was never and never will be a leader! Not until Sundin leaves and the Leafs have a true leader will they ever make the playoffs again!!!

Can we please find something else to talk about other than the leafs. 40 Years of failure, you think the GTA and the centre of the universe would have something better to talk about. Make the playoffs, win the cup and shut up already

Not only will the leafs make the playoffs, they'll win the presidents'trophy too, with an 82-0 season. They'll also win the stanley cup in 16 games.Sundin will get the Hart trophy,Tucker the Ross,Raycroft the Jennings,Toskala the Vezina,Mcabe the Norris, and last but not least...Belak the lady Bing. And they'll live happily ever after. And the leaf nation will sleep the sleep of the just, with visions of sugar plum dancing through their head...The end.

Been a Leafs fan for 40 yrs. I drive the wagon. Best thing you can count on when everyone is trading for younger, the Leafs trade for older. J Ferguson - See Ya Homer.

I agree that this question is getting old.

Atleast let everyone play a month or two so there is some empirical data to base a decision on.

You could have asked if the Canadian Mens Olympic team would reach the gold medal game and been just as wrong as any guess here.

Who cares if they make the playoffs? That's no goal. Maybe it would be better to finish last and build a hockey team for a change.

It's what now...3 or 4 times around for this lame question?I guess you figure that if you keep asking it over and over again, miracles will happen?I'm wondering if you're clicking your heels together while asking it...It worked it the land of oz.:)

I especially like this phrasing :"with injuries playing no small role, they fell short for the second year in a row".The leafs' team i've been watching, has been "falling short" for the last forty years.

Yes Marlyn,i agree with you.."relax leaf fans",like the management has been doing all these years...

No. As a Leafs fan, it is disappointing to see another patchwork makeover. If you want to see a team that actually tried to improve its roster, look at Philly. They will be in the playoffs while the Leafs will finish with another "we came close....." season.

i think that they will make the playoffs dont matter win or lose they still my team go leafs go get ridd of mats sundin make darcy tucker as new captain

Yes, I admit it, I'm a Leaf fan. Yes, I was alive (though not old enough to understand what it meant) when the Leafs last held old Stanley high above their heads. Yes, the Leafs actually have won the cup - the Stanley Cup!

There certainly needs to be some major changes and they start at the top. JFJ should have been replaced even before last season. He's as useless as 'breasts' on a bull! There are also some people at the helm that have no business being involved in the front office antics that need to go.. yes, I'm refering to the Teachers Pension Fund people. Hello.. leave the dealings to the people who have been involved in sports for their entire lives!!!! Stay out of the front office and let the people who know, run the show!

No, I can't see the Leafs making the playoffs and, as much as I'm a Leaf fan, I couldn't care any less about them making the playoffs. For me, it's the cup I want to see being skated around the ACC in the hands of Leaf players. It's not enough for the team to just make the playoffs so overpaid, spoiled, and over-rated players can get that playoff bonus.

Leaf organization. Wake up and smell what you're shovelling. Leaf fans are jumping off the boat faster than Met's players are clearning out their lockers! FIX THE PROBLEM FROM THE TOP DOWN!

There. I said it. I'm glad!
