Who has caught your eye? Tue, September 4, 2007 Canada’s first goal came in the final minute of the first period, with Russian defenceman Kirill Tulupov off serving a bench minor for too many men on the ice, and Canada on a 4-on-3 power play.
Defenceman Drew Doughty, who plays with Guelph in the Ontario Hockey League, leaned into a slap shot from the high slot. Varlamov made the first save but the puck dribbled behind him and Sam Gagner banged it home.
With all the talent on both teams, which player do you think will go on to have the most successful NHL career?
Hockey is just more important to Canadians than it is to the Russians. It seems that we always wax them in these minor series. Anyone ever watch the Russian Selects vs. the OHL or WHL?

Dave, that was the best post, and exactly what I was thinking. Focus on how awesome our boys are playing and a 5 game clinch!!!

Is anybody following this? Pretty good crowd in Winnipeg - but they're dying for hockey of any sort. Sorry, I just can't get excited about this series. Lame idea. The Russians are probably thinking the same thing, considering they've lost five in a row. A big "Who cares?" from this view.

OK...this is simple. One has to look at the bigger picture.....What remains of the country of Russia has been going through an identity/cultural crisis for the past 3-4 decades. Canada, on the other hand is getting more confident and involved on the world scene. This... my fine readers, reflects the scores in the game of hockey. Amen.

Instead of wondering what is wrong with the Russians, lets shift focus and talk about how great the Canadians are. I guess the attention put into the minor hockey systems across Canada is paying off.

They never pass. They all seem to hog the puck.

From the five games thus far, EVERYTHING is wrong with the Russians in my opinion.
Too much individualism, not enough teamwork. Their defence is sorely lacking and they are just being out-coached by the "master" Brent Sutter.

The Russians are soft! They are afraid to get hit and arent paying the price to make a play.
Jimmy, 2007-09-05 00:34:00
The Russtans lack defence, good goal tending and accurate shooting ability
James Hoy, 2007-09-05 00:11:29
It's the coaching. Sutter is schooling Nemchinov.
