Who has caught your eye?
Tue, September 4, 2007
Canada’s first goal came in the final minute of the first period, with Russian defenceman Kirill Tulupov off serving a bench minor for too many men on the ice, and Canada on a 4-on-3 power play.

Defenceman Drew Doughty, who plays with Guelph in the Ontario Hockey League, leaned into a slap shot from the high slot. Varlamov made the first save but the puck dribbled behind him and Sam Gagner banged it home.

With all the talent on both teams, which player do you think will go on to have the most successful NHL career?

Have your say in our forum.

Which player has caught your eye?

I haven't watched any of the series, but I'm not surprised that Sam Gagner is doing so well.

I was hoping last draft that the Maple Leafs would trade up to get him.

I think he's going to eventually be a 40 goal and 100 point player in the NHL.

Not easy to do, but I think he will do it in about 4 or 5 years.

Kyle Tunnis has been impressive to me as well as Gagner. He has 4 or 5 goals I believe. Pretty good for someone that played tier 2 junior A and never played in an international game before.

Looks like Phoenix has a future star, good draft pick for them.

Josh Godfrey of the Soo Greyhounds has really caught my eye. He is one onf my best friends cousins and I never realized how good he really was! He is lighting it up not only playing solid defence and unleashing his deadly shot but pitching in on offence a little. This is going to help his NHL career big time!

I am a little surprised that Gagner is putting up the numbers he is. Not only leading Canada in scoring but he is the tourney scoring leader.

I know he had a very good year in London last season but I didnt think he would be putting up these kind of numbers.

Edmonton may have gotten a steal getting Gagner this past June. If he can keep it up an the NHL level it will be a huge boost for there offence, which they can certainly use after struggling so badly after Ryan Smyth was traded.

Gagner and Schremp should be an exciting duo for many years to come if they can find the chemistry to play together.

I'm surprised Sutter and Gagne can score. I didn't pictured them being grinders, but they seem to have a nice touch with the puck.

If the Russian don't care about winning a hockey series ,that says multitudes about their hockey status.Whats wrong with the Russians is that their overrated. In their hayday they were grown men playing against boys.Much like Cuba's boxers who used to beat up on teenagers.

What Canadian's can't seem to grasp is that other countries don't care much about junior hockey. In fact, no other country cares as much about hockey as we do.

That's what is "wrong" with the Russians... they don't care about this series.

Total dominination in every area.Unless the soviets go back to their win or go to Siberia coaching methods they will never amount to much.If our Athletes of 72 were in game shape and had more than 2 weeks practise time the same result would of happened.

There's nothing wrong with the Russians. They're a fine team. It's just that the Canadian team is so much better.
Rainer, 2007-09-05 10:14:10

They've got no heart! Run the list of Russian "stars" that fizzle out almost the day after the big contract is signed. They don't play for the love of the game, their country, they play for the talents scouts. As most of them are drafted, they're not even playing for that.

The Canadians are willing in every category. Speed, skill, hits, offence, defence, you name it.

The last time I saw a Russian get undressed like that she was on stage!!!
