Did the CBC shortchange CFL fans?
Mon, August 20, 2007

After Mother Nature had knocked out the power at Regina's Mosaic Stadium, CBC's coverage of the Edmonton-Saskatchewan game disappeared.

When CBC got power back to its mobile production unit just before play resumed 58 minutes later, though, the broadcast was only beamed live into the Saskatchewan market on TV and through the internet - leaving fans steamed.

Asleep at the switch?

Felt very cheated, stayed up trying to see the end of a great CFL game only to catch highlights on the late sports news. Very disappointed in their decision to air a movie instead of staying with the game.

Gordon :

Yes I agree, the CBC screwed up big time about the Flyers / Habs game. To show the first 3 periods and not the overtime is mind boggling. Well at least there time is almost for airing CFL games LOL.

It's a shame, but it's nowhere near the debacle that caused Dave Hodge to throw his pencil.

George Black should not be director of officials. I think CBC did the country a favour so they didnt have to watch the officials screw up the game. The officials are garbage bc their leader was weak when he was working games. eg. 1989 Grey Cup game. Check how Tony Champion was held and tackled during pass plays. Number 58 didnt call a thing.

CBC should have just stuck to doing hockey games. That was brutal when they came back on the air and had a movie playing. Thank god there time is almost up.

I remember that hockey game to Jimmy. The Flyers were in Montreal I believe on a Saturday night, it was in 1986 or 87 I think. It was a good game, the Flyers were were contending for the Patrick division title and the Habs for the Adams division title. I can still picture Dave Hodge tossing his pencil in the air when he was told they were going to curling just as the overtime period was about to start. Another smooth move by the CBC.

Jimmy:

Yeah it's pretty sad when Hockey Night in Canada didn't show the rest of the hockey game and went to, of all things, curling.

Dave Hodge was right in his exasperation and disgust!

I have already sent several "messages" to CBC and they do not even have the BALLS to respond because they are a bunch of simple minded morons. I also agree that they could not broadcast anything of substance and I will applaud they end of there affiliation with the CFL. GOOD RIDIANCE lowlife station.

Yes for sure the CBC short chnaged CFL fans and I am 1 of them. I to was watching the game and was shocked that when the CBC came back on air they were showing a movie.

I remember back in the mid to late 80's during an NHL game between the Flyers and Habs. The game went into overtime and just as the overtime was getting ready to start the CBC cut away to go to curling. Thats when Dave Hodge was fired, he threw his pencil in the air after finding out they wouldnt be showing the overtime.

I am a Rider fan living in Atlantic Canada. I really feel cheated by CBC. Thank God for the internet. I could listen to the last quarter on radio.

I am pleased that CBC's remaining life with the CFL is short. Good ridance!
