What do you think about Belfour going to Sweden? Sun, August 19, 2007
(CP) - Having failed to land a job with an NHL team, veteran goaltender Ed Belfour is reportedly ready to continue his career overseas.
According to a report in Swedish sports publication Expressen, Belfour is "very close" to signing a contract with second-division Leksand of the Swedish League.
What do you think about 'Eddie the Eagle's' possible flight up north?
It's too bad, he still has more talent that 90% of the goalies currently in the NHL. He may be old, but going from last year, he has something left.

Belfour should take a hint, no NHL team wants him and there are a few at least that need help especially the LA Kings, then its time to call it a career.
He is just another athlete that doesnt know when its to hang up the blades.
I can see him getting into trouble with the law and spedning time in a jail cell which would be about time, maybe then it will sink in to him that he isnt above the law just because he is a pro athlete even if his best days are well behind him.

Can he take Hasek with him?

I have a lot of respect for Eddie as well as any NHL goaltender current or past. It's not like Eddie is used to playing with great defense in front of him anyways. Today NHL teams seem to really need a saviour goalie to make up for the lack of defensive talents in the league or going 60 to 80 games with their number #1.
I think the eagle has the heart of a lion. If he enjoys the game and comraderie like many then he should play for sure. I'll miss him playing in the NHL. He was worth a ticket for sure. His stats prove he's still one of the best. I heard Fleury was having a good time. Good luck Eddie .. will miss you playing here for sure.

All i can say is booze and strippers are in great supply in Europe. The question is when but not if the Eddie the Eagle train wreck will fall off the rail? I'll be watching him but not because of his hockey skills but to see when he ends up in a Swedish jail cell.

It's an embarassment when a Hall of Famer doesn't know when it's over.

Whatever, Julian. Eddie's old and his partying/brawling ways make him a liability to any NHL team dumb enough to even consider signing him.

I'm surprised that there isn't much interest in Eddie the Eagle. He could still totally help out an NHL team on a drive to the cup!
