Were Materazzi's comments inappropriate?
Sat, August 18, 2007

MILAN, Italy (AP) - Italy defender Marco Materazzi has finally disclosed what he said to Zinedine Zidane in the World Cup final that provoked the former France midfielder to retaliate with a head-butt.

Were Materazzi's comments about Zidane's sister appropriate?

Yes the comments were inappropriate and crossed the line of good sportsmanship. Trash talking someone's sister or family is low and if you have to stoop to that level you shouldnt be playing. Especially at the level of a world cup.

dave a pillow fight might be your way of settling things with your " friends " but it doesnt mean thats how everyone else does it LOL.

go back to the rock you crawled out from under you big tough guy you LOL.

OMG am I actually reading this???? While you two continue your little pillow fight here is a little food for thought - hockey and soccer have the same basic principle - put the object into the goal. How big the net, field, equipment or players are is irrelevant. Saying players wear padding is the dumbest arguement ever. That would be saying American football is stupid because of the pads, or soccers shin guards for that matter. Hell, even the penalty concept is the same, just that in soccer you get a little card thrown in your face and in hockey the zebra blows the whistle.

Now, the real point of the comment board - of course Materazzi's comments were inappropriate. Mother jokes are one thing, but calling ones sister a whore is completely crossing the line. But, it did what he probably wanted it to do, get a reaction from Zidane and got Zidane kicked out.

No surprise from you jimmy, insults as usual.

wayne I have seen tons of european players dive in the NHL, who hasnt. Like always you got lost in what I was saying but its ok thats nothing new LOL.

Jimmy It always amazes me how competitive guys get at tournaments in rec league and the crap they pull to win that cup. But they do. Fights break out, guys get injured for bragging rights.

I don't know who they brag to, they are the only ones who care.
wayne, 2007-08-22 10:12:21

Never seen any one dive eh jimmy.

Yep some countries they do only have soccer. I know you like hockey jimmy. don't dispute that.
wayne, 2007-08-22 08:06:27

Dont forget that in a lot of countries all they have for a sport is soccer. They dont have anything else to watch / compare it to so its all they know.
