What's the best match you ever saw? Sun, August 19, 2007
Usually, it’s long after you’ve assumed the position on a bar stool and have somehow managed to have blown your cover and exposed yourself as a being guilty of being a sportswriter. That’s when somebody will ask you the damn question: “What’s the greatest game you ever covered?”
My answer has always been the same. “Sorry. Can’t do it. Covered too many to name one.”
It's hard to pick just one but one of the most unique experiences I will never forget was my first and only EPL game. The game was at a packed Elland Road Stadium in Leeds and featured the heavily favoured Liverpool squad vs Leeds United. Leeds United came back from an early 2-0 deficit and won 4 to 3 thanks to Mark Viduka's 4 goal performance!

1986 Grey Cup. Edmonton Eskimos came in as 28 point favorites against my Ti-Cats. BC Place was full of Edmonton fans already wearing sweatshirts and hats declaring themselves champions. Hamilton set a record for take aways: 11, and Osbaldiston hit 6 field goals. It was 39 - 0 with about 5 minutes to go. Edmonton's quarter back had to change his name to "Down-Again!" and my voice was gone before half-time. I didn't get it back for three days! Most fun I ever had a sporting event.

1987 Canada Cup, Canada vs Russia. Less than 30 seconds left in the game, face off in Canada's end, Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Larry Murphy breaking out 3 on 1. Gretzky using Murphy as a decoy and passing to Lemieux and he picked the top corner on a great shot for Canada's thrilling 6 - 5 win!!!!

Bobby Orr flying thru the air after scoring a winning goal. Greatest moment I have ever seen. He was always my hero.

No contest. The 1975 New Year's Eve game at the Montreal Forum between Les Canadiens and The Soviet Red Army, a 3-3 tie in which the Habs pumped 38 shots at Tretiak (Dryden had just 13 to handle).
