Would you play with a gay athlete?
Tue, August 14, 2007

The director of a prominent soccer club insinuates on national television that a player on a rival team is gay. The player sues for slander and goes on TV to deny being homosexual. A judge causes an uproar by saying gays don't belong in Brazilian soccer.

With a narrative like a Latin American telenovela, a controversy over the questioned sexual orientation of Sao Paulo midfielder Richarlyson has shaken one of Brazil's most hallowed institutions - soccer - with insults, blanket accusations of homophobia and unsolicited defences for supposedly closeted gay teammates.

Gay debate rages in Brazil

Or that you won't change into your skivies in a Gay community theatre's revival of Guys and Dolls.

Pretty soon, they'll make it illegal to say you don't endorse homosexuality.

Ted how in Gods name did i question your sexuality?Personally i do not care about your open lifestyle nor do i care about you and your gay buddy's changing in you community Theatre's dressing room.Typical reaction of a overly sensitive man to call me a homophobe because i agree with seperate dressing rooms for gay athletes.

Raymond.

What I did with my last post was try to be a little bit funny. Of course, that would only be clear to a person with a sense of humor.

And why is it that the best response by homophobes is to question other people's sexuality, as you did mine. Not that it matters, but I have gay friends, and I've been married to a woman for 15 years. It's no big deal to me either way. My gay friends are not really "my gay friends", they are just my friends. Who they sleep with is of no concern to me one way or the other, as long as they are happy.

....

As for the sex in the dressing room business, I guess you have a point, Wayne, although...

I do community theatre, and we all dress together. I have not yet had the urge to have sex with those people just because we are walking around in our skivies together. It just doesn't seem to be an issue.

The seperate dressing room has some merit but.

As a guy, are you opposed to integrated locker rooms ie men and women together.

Are you prepared to pay for a male locker room, a female locker room, a gay male locker room and a gay female locker room?

I said I would have no problem having them on my team.

I would have no problem resisting a homosexual.

I'm not afraid of the 5% of homosexuals that are in the population. In fact, I might have a friend that could be one.

I still love them as a person, but I don't agree with their homosexuality.

RE:Ted Richards believes not all gay men want Gordon. Not the point Ted,keep your eye on the ball.It is a respect issue- if girls like boys/seperate dressing rooms. If boys like boys/seperate dessing rooms.I really don't think anyone is afraid of homosexuals Ted(might be the other way around).
Raymond, 2007-08-18 12:52:31

Gordon...oh brother...

If they had a separate dressing room... are you soooo good looking that gay men couldn't resist making a pass at you? I bet. LOL.

I guess you better not promote your lifestyle either, eh, Gordon? I mean, come on, it has to be fair. No talk of the women you are trying to pick up. Good thing (insert sarcasm switch here - turn to "on") that kind of talk never goes on in a dressing room full of men. (Turn switch off).

Are you seriously that afraid of gay people, or was your post a joke, because 1956 called and wants its logic back.
Ted Richards, 2007-08-18 00:45:32

5% of the population is homosexual, so there's a very small chance of having a homosexual teammate.

That said, if they had a separate dressing area, I would be okay with it as long as they didn't try to promote their "lifestyle".
Gordon S., 2007-08-17 23:48:58

I see the problem as a cultural one. Most countries of the world are not up to our anything goes society. If this happened in canada i could probably understand the outrage. But if you guys are outraged about Brazil take a look at the Middle East-women are not allowed to play and their homosexuals beheaded.
