Where will Forsberg end up?
Thu, August 30, 2007

The Toronto Maple Leafs may have a Swedish MAP line next season if everything works out well. That is a line of Mats, Alex and Peter, as in Sundin, Steen and Forsberg.

Now, this is not set in stone with hieroglyphs into the walls of the ACC, but it is still within the realm of possibilities.

Leafs eyeing Forsberg

I would say that the odds on favorite in Peter's mind would be to play with his lifelong friend in VANCOUVER. Yes, you heard me. Peter and Markus Naslund have been friends since they were children. If he decides to play it will not be just for a contract, he wants to win. He sees that Vancouver has a shot at the cup, as any team with Luongo would have, and the Canucks need a scored badly and someone who could ignite Naslund. Enter Peter Forsberg. Remember you heard it here first, and from all people as a Calgarian!!!

Leafs could use him if he's healthy, but lets forget about the MAP line and maybe put Blake, or Poni or Borat(Antropov) out there with them.

Why would Forsberg sign with the Leafs? Oh, wait...he must want to finish his season early next year

OK, you know if the Make Beliefs sign him, it means he gets injured as per usual. They are a cursed franchise so why sign a cursed player (this ain't Forsberg the 1996 model).

I would think that, if he does come back to the NH:L, it would be with a team with a chance to win it all. With all due respect to George Gross, that leaves the Leafs in the wake of about a half-dozen other real teams.

If the Sens could sign him for $ 2,000,000 or so then yes it would be a very good pick up. Forsberg has become injury prone over the last few years so signing him for big bux wouldnt be worth it if he only plays around 50 - 55 games a year.

They would be a hard team to check with him and Spezza the top 2 centers and Heatly and Alfredson the top 2 wingers.

I still think they can use 1 or 2 more big tough wingers that can play on a regular basis or a tough physical defenceman.

If Ottawa wants to go for a guy who is injured 80% of the time, then go for it.

I think he may help, but in a very limited way.

That is why the Sens traded Shaffer to Boston to make room under the cap to sign Emery and Schubert without that trade 1 of them isnt signed. Shaffer is making around $ 2 million a year while Donovan is making around $ 800,000 a year. They will be in big trouble next summer when both Spezza and Heatley contracts are up. It may be sign 1 or the other like in the Redden / Chara situation all over again. Should be a very interesting summer in Ottawa next year.

George

The Sens are almost capped out thats why they would have to trade away a player or 2 to make room for Forsbergs contract.

Rod and James, the Sens hardly choked this year making it to the finals. Its rare a team wins the cup there first time getting there. Also look at all the time the Sens had between series, they must have averaged at least 6 or 7 days. Thats alot of time off before the next series starts. Emery did struggle in the finals but he was playing hurt with a tendon I think that was torn and he had surgey on this summer so he will be 100 % when the season starts in October.

Every team that didnnt make the playoffs or were beat out during the playoffs would give anything to be in the Sens skates and play for the cup. The Sens had a great year and hopefully they can build on it.

the reason the sens "choke" is mostly caused by the lack of experience. Also, I think the team needs more chemistry. With a swede line (Alfredsson and Forsberg), and th canadian line(Heatley, Spezza), the sens are able to achieve higher standings. Except in my opinion, the only obstacles are goalie Ray Emery and defenseman Wade Redden
