Was there a conflict of interest in Gass's arbitration?
Thu, August 30, 2007

If you listen closely, you can almost hear the cries of anti-Eskimos fans across the league.

Court of Queen's Bench Chief Justice Allan Wachowich - the arbitrator in A.J. Gass's case - is an Eskimos season ticket holder. But all parties involved with the case - the CFL and the CFL Players' Association - agreed to Wachowich being the arbitrator.

Gass's suspension thrown out

The facts are that gass has been a bad act before and he will be again. A season ticket holding arbitrator is a bad call. The Esks will need more than Gass in their tank to beat Calgary on Monday! The CFL needs consistency in their governance but this was neither the way nor the place to begin.

bush league for sure.. makes the cfl look like a joke..

It sure was funny to see the helmit flying through the air. I kinda doubt that someone would want to squeeze his junk but some people do weird things. Maybe pro sports players do antics like this to draw more attention good or bad, a ticket sale is a ticket sale. It would be just like the celebrities and their antics.

Yes there definitely was a conflict of interest with an arbitrator overturning Gass's suspension as he is an Esks season ticket holder!

I cant see anything like this ever happening in the NHL, NFL, NBA or MLB. Not in a million years.

This is just typical of the CFL, it makes the Commissioner look bad and takes away his power.

I'll start by saying I'm a Stamps fan, but I have to agree with the arbitrator. What Gass did was studip no question. But if we are going to have rulings lets at least have some consistency. The choice of arbitrators was insane. There will always be a question of doubt to the ruling. To close I say fine him and let him play the Stamps are still going to kick some Esk butt come labour day.

Hey Gass:

Can I say steroid induced tantrum?

Gass is lucky its only a 1 game suspension. He was lucky last year when he kicked a Tiger Cat that was on the ground and unable to defend himself and didnt get a suspension for that.

He should have been suspended last year for the kick and now with this latest incident a 2 or 3 game would have been more appropriate for a repeat offender. He got a break but things always even out in the long run.

The good thing about contact sports like football and hockey is the chance to get even with a good hard tackle or bodycheck.

If someone does something bordering dirty / cheap shot, take a number, you have the rest of the game or the next one to get him back.

There isnt the need for a stupid penalty like Gass did, that cost his team a win and maybe even a playoff spot.

Gass is a loose cannon on the field. His play the last few years is starting to get dirty. Hopefully this is his last year as a player.

His selfish actions have cost his team wins. If Edmonton misses the playoffs by 2 points due to his penalty against Calgary that cost the Esks the game I would cut him!
Jimmy, 2007-08-22 06:01:35

Maybe Gass can appeal his suspension every week and play the rest of this year and maybe serve his 1 game suspension next season.

The CFL is a sad joke with it horrible officating and stupid policies.

Friday night in a game between Calgary and B.C. a Calgary player sacked Buck Pierce and after he got up he pumped his fist in the air and cleary didnt hit any B.C. player but was given a penalty on the play. Unbelievable, the refs are pathetic. The CFL is a fast and entertaining game but the refs leave alot to be desired.

I am a big fan of the CFL but these refs are ruining a great game with phantom calls and horrible spotting when a team goes for a first down on a short yardage play.
