Who is your favourite Canadian? Sat, August 4, 2007
Justin Morneau, the reigning American League MVP is an all-star with the Minnesota Twins. The New Westminster, B.C. native with No. 33 tattooed on his right shoulder - inset into a red Canadian flag - pays tribute to his favourite Canadian player, Larry Walker. Who is your's?
Even though I never had the pleasure to see him pitch, Mr Ferguson Jenkins has to be 1 of the best all time Canadians !!!!

Terry Puhl! Ahh! I forgot about him - sorry Terry. A good old Saskatchewan boy like myself.

I forgot to mention Terry Puhl as an all time fave Canadian. He had a very good career with the Houston Astros.

Tom Valcke is my favourite Canadian in baseball
I am somewhat biased in my opinion for who does the most for baseball in Canada. I believe the contributions of my brother, Tom Valcke, are so much more than watering the grass and ushering people to their seats at the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St. Marys, Ontario. He is responsible for the museum that gathers and retains the knowledge and artefacts that make up our Canadian baseball heritage and runs the programs to permanently recognize the contributions to Canadian baseball in regions coast to coast. But there is more.
At the grass roots level, he coaches multiple minor baseball teams and is part of the local league organizing. His style is to provide an atmosphere where learning and playing baseball is fun for kids at all levels. Parents constantly boast how lucky we are to have such a coach.
At the provincial level, he is active in the Ontario Baseball Association and teaches certification courses for our coaches. Along with Dr. Paul Quantrill (honourable mention candidate?), he is working hard to save young pitchers arms by banning the curve ball.
On the national level, he was part of Baseball Canada technical committee. He was the first director and created the central scouting system in Canada when all Canadians had to go through the MLB draft. On the international level, he tirelessly promotes Canadian baseball around the world. He has been an active participant at the International Baseball Federation. This past week, he again took part in the annual World Children’s Baseball Fair created by Hank Aaron and Sadaharu Oh to break down cultural barriers using baseball as a medium.
If you heard him speak or have seen him in action, I am sure you will agree with me that no one passionately promotes baseball in Canada better than Tom.

If we're talking strictly baseball here, as I believe we are, I'd have to agree with Justin and say Larry Walker. Not only because he was a tremendous player, but because he was a tremendous guy, and a hockey player to boot.

My current favourite Canadian player would be Justin Morneau. He not only hits for power also has a 300 average. He really carried the Twins the last month or so of last seasons playoff run and into the first round.
My all time favourite Canadian would be Larry Walker. He was an all around player, hitting for power, average and also being a gold glove out fielder.
