Is this a good move by Kevin Lowe?
Thu, August 2, 2007

Kevin Lowe believes his only responsibility is making the Edmonton Oilers a better hockey team, not to other general managers.

After adding forward Dustin Penner to his lineup Thursday, he thinks he's done that. Penner officially became a member of the Oilers when the Anaheim Ducks declined to match a US$21.25-million, five-year offer sheet. Even though some like Ducks GM Brian Burke criticized the move, Lowe didn't feel the need to make any apologies.

Ducks part with Penner

Lowe has every right to offer what he wants. All Burke has done is prove that collusion exists amongst GMs in the league.

Why is Lowe still a GM, sure some of the happenings haven't been his fault but the money he dishes out for unproven talent is rediculous, when he won't spend that kind of money to keep the people that want to play in Edmonton. At the same time he single handedly dismantles the heart, grit, and core of the team. As an Oilers fan I am looking forward to the team missing the playoffs again in '08 so Lowe and MacT will be gone and the team can finally start to rebuild.

Brain Burke is a good gm, but boy is this guy a whiner.....Kevin Lowe has every right to sign Penner to an offer sheet, the free agency rules were ratified by the gm's.

Penner is a good player with a lot of upside, not worth the price tag yet, but Lowe was..(1 counting on the price being to high for the ducks) ,or (2 handcuffing the ducks with salary cap issues.)

a good move by Lowe either way.

How much did Ryan Smyth sign for?

Does Brian Burke want some cheese with his wine. What a cry baby. Suck it up butter cup, it's a business.

he's huge he can score and playing with the set up skills of hemsky, horcoff, stoll, coglianno and gangner in the near future! this guys going to be a fifty goal plus power forward that no one is going to push off the puck!he only needs to be a little meaner like shanahan use to be. I really hope the oil get him. if they do with the d they have and the stable goalies they look like a cup contender. way to go lowe. your playing the free agency system that needs to be played one that makes a good manager an inegral part af a cup winner.

I hope Brian Burke doesn't match, and sticks Edmonton with Mr.Penner - He's not worth that kind of money, even if you have cap room. Seems like all the Gm's have gone insane.

WAY TO GO KEVIN LOWE!! He is playing the game and is doing what he can to improve his hockey team. And to have him do this to the Ducks is even sweeter. This is just the beginning - the Oilers are finally in a position to be able to do some of this nice posturing. I look forward to next season!!!

Lowe is a genius. He is doing 2 things. First he is pushing Anaheim to the cap limit, and next year they have to re-sign Perry & Getzlaf. Secondly, and most importantly, he is going to force NHL GM's to start looking after their own RFA's before spending stupid money on guys like Gomez, Drury, and Briere. Do you think those guys are worth more than Crosby?
KJardine, 2007-07-27 14:59:46

Mr.Puck

I live in Ontario, I want to see all the Canadian teams do well and make the playoffs. All I am saying is that I believe that Lowe could have tried for a better player for that kind of money plus the draft picks the Oilers will lose. I think that Zach Parise or a Mike Cammalleri would have been a better fit to play with Hemsky. But we all are entitled to our own opinions.
