Who's to blame for Canada's poor showing?
Mon, July 9, 2007

With a 2-0 loss to Congo, Canada became the first country to be held off the scoresheet in three separate tournaments (1985, 2001, 2007).

The country that made it to one World Cup (and didn't win a game or score a goal in that one, either) brought the humiliation home as host of the biggest soccer event in Canadian history.

No wins, no goals scored

Stupid comments about the linguistic composition of the team aside, the team should be embarrassed. They were uncompetitive for most of the minutes they were on the field. I don't think anyone predicted advancement, but these results were pitiful.

Now back to the composition of the team. Name 3 junior players based out of Quebec currently playing meaningful minutes on a club? Stumped? So am I. But that is besides the point. Quebec, or the other provinces, unless we start to take this game more seriously and resource its development properly, these results will only continue.

Absolutely Canada should be embarrassed not only for the debacle on the field but alos how Soccer Canada and FIFA screwed the fans trying to enter the stadium to watch the matches.

who cares about soccer anyway....not Canadians....Hockey is our game.....

Quick answer...yes. Long Answer...definitely...The worst part about this whole debacle is that Dale Mitchell gets promoted to coach the National Men's team as they head into qualifying for the 2010 World Cup...His negative tactics and naive coaching are going to stifle players like De Guzman and De Rosario and ensure that Canada will not qualify yet again...it is interesting that Canada has acheived their best results with foreign born/trained coaches...time to bring in an Italian/Brazilian coach..top two in terms of World Cup victories and well coached in terms of strategy and technical ability...people should write into the CSA demanding a change

I think Canadian athletes and coaches should be totally embarrassed. They have not only embarrassed themselves but the country. It is time Canadian atheletes either got serious about their sports or got out of the way so others could play. Canadian atheletics in international competition are part of an old boy's club whose main concern is what can the government of the day do for me. Well, the govenment may give you grants but they can't give you skill or desire.

I don't think we should be embarrassed at all. This team wanted to score and worked hard each game. Now is the time to figure out what Canada needs to do to improve.

Royalist should be more than embarrassed.... This is English Canada's team...

Team Quebec would have scored and won a game.

It takes pride and heart...
