Should NHL force Nylander to sign with Oilers? Wed, July 4, 2007
Can you sue to get a free agent hockey player you believe you already had acquired? Is that what the Edmonton Oilers plan to do to get Michael Nylander, er, back? Will NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman become involved to force the "return" of Nylander to the team?
Would the Oilers really want Nylander here after this? Would the Washington Capitals be forced to provide player compensation to Edmonton? Was the agent negotiating with the Oilers and the player with the Capitals?
If I was Edmonton I would force Nylander to return to Edmonton and then have him rot in the minors riding buses for the next 4yrs

No he shouldn't be forced to play for Edmonton. If they had nothing in writing then he isn't obligated to play there. Yes he looks like a jerk for it, but does he really care? And really, are they going to WANT him after this? Can they count on a 100% effort from a guy that obviously didn't want to play for them?
Edmonton is in big trouble right now. Nobody wants to play there for some reason. This Nylander issue just magnifies that.
