The Make Me Laffs should unload one of there stiffs on defence like either Kubina the human pylon or McCabe the one dimensial d-man, or power play specialist to sign Shanny. I think if the Make Me Laffs give Shanny a 2 or 3 year contract he may give them a home town discount. Its worth a shot, nothing to lose and everything to gain with a classy guy and a great leader like Shanny. Or get rid of Raycroft, I saw yesterday the Make Me Laffs signed Scott Clemensen he backed up Marty in NewJersey last year. Is the Make Me Laffs goaltending so bad they may try playing with 2 goalies this coming season and playing with 2 d-men and 2 forwards ? LOL

I believe the Senators are on the verge of settling their long standing goal tender problem, not by demoting Gerber but by ditching Emery.
They can't afford both and it seems that Emery is the only guy they can unload at this time. Gerber is no slouch in the net and Emery will never be worth the millions he'll be seeking from arbitration.
Watch for a big scandal to break involving him and his off ice dealings

Leafs fans:
How is paying Blake, who is 5'10 and injury-prone, $4M a year untill he's 39 years old a good signing?
JOPA, 2007-07-05 10:51:50
Yeah, Rick, you're correct. I should have checked those facts better before throwing out that snarky comment. Mea culpa.
But, Jimmy, what is JFJ going to use for funds to sign Shanahan? He's not going anywehere for less than $4 million. And why should he? I think the reason he's not been re-signed yet by the Rangers is that they're trying to get him cheap - because they too are now cash-strapped. Big time.
Ottawa hasn't done a thing yet and Murray has at least $5 to $7 million to spend (assuming Emery doesn't eat up a huge chunk of it).

What the hell are the Leafs waiting for, go sign Shanny!!!!!!! He is a great leader, had a good year for the Rangers last season and is a local boy.
Jimmy, 2007-07-03 20:58:51
Most of the western division teams, except for a couple, improved considerably...I believe the cup will stay in that division for, atleast, one more year..Total opposite in the east..Only 3 or 4 teams made a few major improvements, the rest kinda balanced things out,by losing a few ordinary players, only to replace 'em by different, but just as ordinay ones!!Sabres & habs are worse off this year, then they were last year..:TO RICK!!..Don't blame Gainey,buddy!!..he tried to bring a few stars to Montreal, but, let's face it!!..no one wants to go there anymore. The politics, and mostly, the media are slowly choking the life out of a once great club!!..

George O'Leary,
Those hypocrite Leaf fans?
Get your story straight. The most hated Islander after the '02 series was Steve Webb not Blake.
Rangers might have made the most impressive signings if they do something about their defense. Still seems like too much money spent though. Avs made a couple of nice moves as well.
Rick, 2007-07-03 01:41:25
On the surface the Rangers' deals look good, Cole, but even with Nylander's departure they had about $25.5 million committed to 12 signed players. Now add the $15 million for Gomez and Drury and that becomes about $40.5 million for 14 players. This leaves them about $9.8 million to sign 6 or 7 players. Shanahan, if retained, figures to get about $4 million of that. So the other 6 get to share just under $6 million - maybe less if Sather wants to keep a "cushion". Seems like there's gonna be 25% of their roster who are barfain-basement guys named "Joe."
George O'Leary, 2007-07-02 16:26:15
Well I think that the Avs definilty made a key move adding a defence and aslo adding Smyth up front but I think that the Rangers made one of the best moves picking up Gomez and Drury because they already have Jagr and with them stealing Cherapanov in the draft I think it will be all Rangers in years to come.

Can't believe some of those hypocrite Leaf fans! A few seasons ago Blake was dubbed "THE most hated opponent" following a playoff series. Now he's the missing ingredient to a parade down Yonge Street. Since then Alfreddson has assumed that mantle. And you just know they'd be lining up to kiss his rear-end as well if he ever became a Leaf.
As for the question: the Flyers have vaulted back into the Eastern playoff picture as have the Panthers with Vokoun in the bag. They will replace Atlanta and the Islanders who will drop out of the top 8. The Leafs will again finish just out of the picture.
