Have your say about Chris Benoit
Thu, September 13, 2007

Canadian Pro wrestler Chris Benoit suffered brain damage from his years in the ring that could help explain why he killed his wife, son and himself, a doctor who studied Benoit’s brain said Wednesday.

Steroid use also has lingered as a theory, since anabolic steroids were found in the home and tests conducted by authorities showed Benoit had roughly 10 times the normal level of testosterone in his system when he died.

I have been a fan of Chis for a number of years. I have not lost any respect for him as a result of this incident, nor should it affect anyone else's opinion. Remember the man for who he was.

First of all, it surprises me that this happened to Benoit's family. Many wrestlers have been accused of taking steroids, but this is a very rare case of violence being taken this far.

Secondly, to all you who bash wrestling as overly violent and sexist, please remember that it is an extension of what all the other consumers view as "entertaiment". All those 24 hour newscasts, reality shows, prime time TV series (Sopranos!) and even pro sports have the same sexist and violent content that wrestling does. And for news and 'reality' TV, most of that is real, not scripted.

Yes, the wrestling product (and the lifestyle of its employees) has issues, but any of you hypocrites who enjoy watching the same smut on network TV have no right to criticize wrestling and its fans.

Knowing Chris as I have it is hard to accept what has happen. I feel sadness and regret that the situation turned out this way. My prayers go out to the family and to his fans.

I find it unfortunate that people are hurrying to pay tribute to Chris Benoit. Instead, people should be paying tribute to his wife and son, the apparent victims of this sad event.

If it comes out that it is steroid abuse, McMahon will be under a lot of heat from the public, the press and the government.

It is very sad and I only hope the WWE did not have any advance knowledge prior to the tribute. It would be a disgrace if they did and had 3 hours dedicated to a murder if that turns out to be true. I hope there are commnets by some wrestlers condemming him for the actions if they are true. All in all it is a very sad story..

I've watched wrestling for many years and cannot believe what has happened. To try to understand what course of events lead Chris Benoit to this conclusion would be an exercise in futility. I must say that while it is a sad situation, it should be stated that the true victims here are his wife and child. WWE did what they thought was the right thing to do given the circumstances and paid homage to a terrific career. However, our attention must be shifted to the fact that he murdered his wife and son. I guess it just serves as evidence that you truly never know what people are ulitmately capable of. Most of us will be left scratching our heads wondering why.

The reality is that police have only just started investigating this situation. Therefore nothing other than respect to Chris Benoit and his family is what should be afforded. Already I am concerned about the immediate swallowing of and presentation of fact of situations that have just taken place. Tomorrow something completely different could be discovered. Let's just let the situation unravel.

The only people that should get a tribute are the wife and son of benoit. For what he did i have lost all respect for someone that takes other people down with them

My hubby and his step dad have been watching wrestling for years together. Then i came along five years ago and started watching it with them. My favorite wrestler was "The rabid wolverine". His moves , his attitude...and yes even his looks. My heart goes out to the family and friends. I'm sure he loved his family dearly...just had some issues with himself.
