Have your say about Chris Benoit
Thu, September 13, 2007

Canadian Pro wrestler Chris Benoit suffered brain damage from his years in the ring that could help explain why he killed his wife, son and himself, a doctor who studied Benoit’s brain said Wednesday.

Steroid use also has lingered as a theory, since anabolic steroids were found in the home and tests conducted by authorities showed Benoit had roughly 10 times the normal level of testosterone in his system when he died.

I read of people condemning the WWE about steroids and such relating to Benoit's death. And personally, I think that the WWE is dispicable and fully responsable for the death of Owen Hart.

But my biases aside, I'd like to point out some facts:

1) The tribute for Chris was prepared before the announcement of the murder-suicide had been released. The WWE had no reason to believe that this was anything but a tragic accident. Logically, the memorial for Chris was in good taste.

2) The WWE pulled its tribute once the police decalred the scope of its investigation. Logically, it was the right thing to do.

3) Although steroids were found at his house, indications point towards them possibly being used to treat his son (who apparently suffered from a case of dwarfism). The WWE has stated that he passed his last drug test.

4) Vince points out a good fact - the murders were spaced out over time, reports indicate that the death of his son was personal in nature (a choke hold type death), plus the placing of Bibles beside them. Logically, this does not indicate an episode of 'riod rage - rather, it indicates more of a premeditation.

So, I must conclude that logically (and it pains me to side with the WWE on this one), that steroids, at this time (pending the tox report), were not the primary cause of this tragedy. Something else, that we may likely never know about, caused Chris Benoit to erupt in an episode of rage/depression/mental collapse/whatever, and led him to commit the horrible murders of his family members.

What ever Chris Benoit was before this weekend, he died a monster. Anything good he may have done before has to be cast with doubt based on his final actions.

I am deeply horrifed of the recent events. Never would I wish that on any one. If it turns out that steroids played a role, that should be addressed within the WWE. There have been far to many great loses as result of steroid abuse.

People keep calling Chris a "monster" There had to be some underlying reason for what has happened.. I feel awful for the families of Chris and Nancy and that poor little boy so innocent. But we need to be careful what is said, Chris still has 2 children in Canada,, how do you think they are feeling right now?! And then to hear from the media and other outlets that thier father is a MONSTER?! Please..if nothing else, have some sympathy for these kids left to deal with this past weekends carnage.. Peace and God bless !!

He was a juice monkey...the roids got to him.

How did Chris Benoit feel about being "drafted" to the ECW a couple of weeks ago? Did he feel he was being "demoted", thereby triggering depression? Did he try to "snap out of it" and go into a stage of mania that triggered this tragedy? If medications (steroids, painkillers, etc.) are found to not be a factor in this case, maybe investigators need to look at Benoit's mental state during the last couple weeks of his life.

Non-wrestling fans, it’s time for you to shut up and stop preaching. Benoit was among the greatest technical wrestlers who ever lived and will be remembered for that. You Johnny-come-latelys are just using this as another excuse to slam the business and its fans.

In terms of the tribute WWE did, the show was done within hours of the police arriving on the scene and the facts did not filter out until after midnight. Once the details were known, the WWE took the appropriate actions.

Calling him a coward may soothe your feelings, but you have no idea why this happened. He was obviously a very disturbed individual of late who went through major struggles throughout his life. What he did to Nancy and Daniel was wrong and he should not be glorified as a human being. But as a wrestler who entertained fans he had few peers.

He was a flawed individual who failed to cope with his own demons and his family, unfortunately, paid the price.

I met with Benoit years ago and he was an honest gentleman, I just wish we knew why he came to such a horrendous decision like the one he made last weekend.

I will celebrate Benoit as one of the best performers wrestling has ever seen, but will also recognize that he was a seriously flawed human being that committed a despicable act in killing his wife and son.

By the way, wrestling is not fake, it is scripted. Fake means that nothing is real, but these are highly athletic actors who pay a physical and mental price for entertaining their fans on a daily basis. When these men fall to the concrete, no one yells “cut” as they do for every stunt you non-wrestling fans marvel at in the movies. If you don’t believe that, visit one of the pro wrestling schools and spend an hour throwing yourself backward on the mat, and see how much fun it is the next morning.

It seems a lot of people's comments involve using the phrases 'speculation' or 'rushing to judgement' and 'not knowing the facts'. What difference does it make if he was on roids and had 'roid rage', the coward should have seeked treatment. What difference does it make if he didn't have 'roid rage', the coward should have taken his own life and nobody else's. Anyone who praises this idiot outside of his family (family bond is the only reason I can see for still not having ill will towards Benoit) should be ashamed of themselves for thinking this guy was some kind of hero. HE WAS AN ATHLETE (OR ATHLETIC) IN A COMPLETELY PHONY BUSINESS WHERE IT'S OBVIOUS STEROIDS ARE A HUGE PART OF SUCCESS. This guy doesn't deserve the attention he's getting in the media or from anyone else. Talk about his wife and child, they are the victims!!

I was always a Benoit's fan as from day#1 until this tragedy, the devil has his stay on this family. But ther's forgiveness, before death. By placing the bible is a sign of relief for a terrible crime you have done, and in repentance and cannot live with it any more. He Chris was under severe stress. I watch's his last wrestling last monday night, it was not his best some thing was amis.p/s stop the battering. vengeance belongs to GOD. May they R.I.P.

Look, we do not know what happened, or what caused Chris Benoit to snap, so who are we to be so angry at him. Could his brain possibly have been injured? All I know is this is a tragedy.
Wanda, 2007-06-28 11:23:03

This guy was a winner...he was famous and had money. There is no excuse for this. he should not be praised. he killed a woman and a child. He he hated life and his family he should have killed himself and left them alone. This is disgusting and disgraceful news.
