Who was the worst NHL draft pick?
Wed, June 20, 2007

With the 2007 National Hockey League Entry Draft a few days away, what better time to look at the Top-10 busts and Top-10 bargains of all time.

1. C ALEXANDRE DAIGLE, OTTAWA SENATORS (1ST OVERALL, 1993): Among his many indiscretions was saying that nobody would remember who was chosen No. 2 that year. A bold statement, especially when Chris Pronger was the man selected behind him.

Who is your choice for the worst, or best, NHL draft pick ever selected? Back to our Top 10 Busts.

Without a doubt it has to be Alexandre Daigle. His first contract set him up for life and he just went through the motions after getting the $ 12 million contract. He didnt have any heart or deterimination, all he cared about was collecting his big fat pay check every 2 weeks. As if his " career " wasnt bad enough who can forget when he posed on the cover of a magazine in the nurse's uniform.

For those saying that Haley (Doug's sister) is better than Doug Wickenheiser, give your head a shake.

No female that's ever played hockey is even as good as Doug Wickenheiser.

Daigle was definitely the biggest bust.I didn't know that Doug Wickenheiser had a sister that played hockey.

How about the Jets in 1979 picking Jimmy Mann over Michel Goulet and Kevin Lowe. Bonehead or what.

Whats with you 2; Pappy and David? Don Cherry is one of the most admired people in Canada especially by all Canadian hockey players at all levels. He was voted one of the top 5 Canadians of all times with some very impressive people. He is very giving to numerous charities and wears his heart on his sleeve when he honours members of our fallen troups on HNIC. You might want to survey our soldiers in Afganistan and get their take of Don Cherry; the voice of the brave and not the whining of 2 whimps. Why do you think CBC has not let him go over some of the statements he has made of the years on Coaches Corner? Because he has millions of admirers and TSN would grab him up in a nano-second.

Nick Antrapov....and he's STILL here??

The worst player in a draft wasn't by a hockey team. It was by the CBC to draft that JERK Cherry to have anything to do with hockey. The team he led to the Stanley cup would have ended up with the CUP if my grandmother coached them.

Wickenheiser sucked bad...Daigle was terrible...and Greg Joly (1974 Caps) didn't do a whole lot either...Patrick Kane will be a superstar...he is so much better than anyone else in the OHL it is sick

How about every Calgary draft pick from Theo Fleury on until 2003 when they hit with Dion Phaneuf. Apologies to Cory Stillman, who never turned it on until he left the Flames. There are a few serviceable NHL players there but as well but nobody that stands out.

It always struck me how bad the Flames were at judging talent, letting guys like St. Louis and Giguere go for nothing. But then there is the rabbit out of a hat trade of Nieuwendyk for Iginla that offsets that somewhat and getting Kiprusoff for nothing. But their drafting is real bad.

Still Don Cherry
