Is Julien a good fit in Boston?
Mon, June 18, 2007

It appears the Boston Bruins have found their next coach.

Both TSN and Rogers Sportsnet have reported that former New Jersey Devils and Montreal Canadiens coach Claude Julien has been hired as the successor to ousted Bruins coach Dave Lewis.

The reports cite unnamed sources confirming the hiring with an official announcement expected Tuesday.

Can the Bruins turn it around? Have your say in our forum.

Bruins to hire Julien

The Bruins will never win the Stanley Cup, they are the Leafs south of the border. Their owner Jacobs is another Harold Ballard who only cares about the bottom line, not the product on the ice. Mr. Julien is a good coach but he will only be as good as the players he has on the ice and in Boston there aren't very many. I told my buddy who is a die hard Bruins fan that as soon as Joe Thorton started making $5 million a year or more he would be traded, even I saw that one coming and I am not a Bruins fan.

I think Mr. Julien is a good coach but what really matters here is how good is the team ? Boston isnt very good so I doubt they will make the playoffs again this year along with the Leafs. The coach can only do so much with a team, the rest is up to the players to play the system the coach puts in place.

Julien had success with New Jersey because they were a good team, not because he is a great coach.

We'll see how he does with Boston, but I don't see him making any big difference.

I'd say he's an okay coach - not that bad and not that good.

What's Milbury got to do with Boston? Last I heard he's still being paid by Wang out on Long Island.

Looks like Chiarelli may have made a pre-emptive strike by nabbing Julien, who would have been a nice fit in Ottawa - also his home-town area as is the case with Murray. Now I hear Ottawa might be looking at Dale Hunter. Hmmmm.

What the hell happened to Milbury...makes it clear to me that Chiarelli is not a Bruin !!!

Definitely a good fit! Claude Julien is an excellent coach who has had success with most of the teams that he coached. His firing by Lou Lamoriello was unjustified and stupid. It's too bad the Senators didn't get to him first.

It was apparent that the players didn't want to play for Lewis. Something had to change and Julien's style might just fit the bill.

At this stage a new coach like Julien can turn it around but I would also look at getting a new goaltending coach since Bob Essensa is the one constant from the last few seasons and should be shown the door. It may be a couple of years down the road but anything's possible.
