What's your take on Michael Vick's sentence? Mon, November 19, 2007
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in prison for his role in a dogfighting conspiracy that involved gambling and killing pit bulls.
What's your take on Michael Vick's prison sentence? Does it fit the crime? Tell us your opinion on his dogfighting case in our forum.
I'll consider dog fighting a sport when the dogs start signing consent forms!

Ned
The only reason Vick said he is sorry is because it was his lawyers advice to try to save his NFL career.
He isnt sorry, the only thing he is sorry about is that he got caught.
Drowning, hanging and electrocuting a living thing because it didnt perform well enough is sickening.
Vick isnt totally off the hook quiet yet, he has plead to federal charges but he still faces state charges which could double when you add on the feds charges.

No dog fighting is not a sport. A fight to the death is hardly a sport. Anyone that thinks its a sport is very disturbed.
I was happy to hear that dog shelters are using vick's shirts as rags to clean the cages!

VICK should be put to death by the same manner that he did to these dogs!?!?! What kind of thinking is that? Seriously? What VICK did was very stupid, but so was that comment.

He should be treated exactly as he treated those dogs. See how he enjoys it.

I think he should get the max sentence, the fine, never to play within the NFL, &/or, like a lot of other, NFL'ers, seek refuge in the CFL, forwhich he should be banned from to, he should'nt even be, never considered for anykind of position, in either legues. He has put a total disgrace, on football, forwhich, has always been one team sport, that youngsters, have been able to choose heros from. He's a total, un - describable disgrace to the NFL/CFL. If there were higher penalities, he should recieve them, then some, he should not be able to benefit from the leagues, either, after his time out in behind bars.

We have to stop elevating athletes above common sense and humane values. Truth is, he is simply playing football for a living. Does this give him the right to torture innocent animals? Does it make him any less subject to the laws of our nation than anyone else? What has he done for the world that's positive? Playing football is not enough, Michael. You need to pay for your crime as much as anyone else would.

Whether Vick plays again or not is irrelevant as that is for the lawyers to decide. What is really sad is what this situation says about our society in general. I once read that you can measure a society by the compassion shown by members of the society towards one another. The disturbing thing is that some of the same people, who condemned Vick, supported Bertuzzi when he performed his premeditated mugging and maiming of a fellow hockey player. What Vick did was to his dogs was reprehensible and he should be punished but you would think that the punishment for maiming a fellow human being should be at least as harsh.

The public has a short attention span. He can come north to play in the CFL, they show a willingness to take convicted felons, but maybe he won't be able to cross the border with a felony conviction.
