Do the Sens need to make major changes?
Wed, June 6, 2007

After watching Ottawa's run to the Stanley Cup final do you think the Eastern Conference Champs need to make major changes?

What caused the Sens collapse in the Cup final? Was it coaching, goaltending, defence, or just bad luck?

Have your say in our forum.

Sens should make at least one change, trade EMERY!..Gerber's not any better...get a dependable goaltender, and work from there..

What i'd really love to see,is for HNIC to make a few trades of their own..How about..Cole & Neale, for Gordon & Frank, the bell beavers, while they're at it,why not get Cherry outta there as well..Stewie from family guy would be a very smart move..See ya next year!!!

Redden. He hasn't played up to par this year not to mention up to his salary. Redden looked like he needed a boost but as an Assistant Captain he should be the one giving everyone on his team a reason to play hard. Instead, he sat back and played half-assed.

The rest can be improved on. Spezza is still young and has matured a lot in the last year. Volchenkov is simply outstanding and while he was not at his best during the Finals, he was still a large reason why the Sens go that far in the first place.

Alfredsson is a great leader despite what other may think. He kept pressing and kept fighting for the puck and his stats show his efforst paid off.

This is too funny, the DUCKS are that much more "Canadian" then the SENS right?? maybe they need to stop watching the Toronto Media and look at the roster!

Bottom line- the Sens tied for second with the rest of the league this season. You either win or you lose and there's no consolation prize in between, and deep down no Sens fan believes this was a success. As far as changes, all 30 teams will go back to the drawing board anyway, but they can only control so much. Luck has a lot to do with what happens in a none month season.

emery who???? goaltending takes teams to the final victory and obviously emery was NOT UP TO TASK!!!those goals allowed by him in all anaheim victorys would have been stopped by any other nhl goaltender and clearly he is not nhl material,he may think he is but the overall loss by him clearly speaks otherwise, clear the decks GET A SOLID GOALTENDER!!!

This has to be one of the stupidest question out there. Why would they need to make "Major Changes"??? a team who made it to the finals needs major changes??? REALITY check.

The Senators future looks great. They are one of the youngest teams in the NHL and are a lock for the playofss each year. Do the Leafs have enough money to even sign Yashin..... what a sad franchise. Now that the Leafs can't use all their cash to buy a team I don't think Sens fans really care about them anyway. Clearly they can't build one. fergy for pres.

big changes...send them all to the leafs.....hahahaha

I honestly think the turning point in this series was Pronger's elbow to McAmmond. Dean McAmmond may not have seemed to be a star player, but I do honestly think he was a lynchpin to the teams fortunes this year. I watched pretty much every Ottawa game this playoffs and noticed the hard work of the 4th line was what was what opened up lots of things for Ottawa. They were fast and very hard working, especially when Saprykin was in the lineup. They were giving the other teams fits with their forechecking. Once McAmmond was lost Ottawa didn't have anyone to fill that void and it left Brian Murray to juggle lines trying to find that spark the 4th line had been generating.

To all you opportunistic Leaf fans, I'll ask you how many Stanley Cup final appearances has your team made in the last 40 years? How many times have they been Conference champions? How many times have they made the playoffs since the lockout ended? How many Stanley Cup rings does your Swedish Captain Mats Sundin have? You Leaf fans can comment when any of those things I mentioned becomes greater then zero.

Hey, Sens and Sens fans. Don't beat yourself up. That is one very good team you have. No need to go overboard and rebuild. Take your hat off to a very good, young team, with a GM that is second to none. Burke constructed this team, and it shows. When the Ducks manhandled the Canucks in Round 2, it was obvious that the Ducks were going all the way. They were, and are that good. Sens, don't be dejected, that was a great run
