Do the Sens need to make major changes?
Wed, June 6, 2007

After watching Ottawa's run to the Stanley Cup final do you think the Eastern Conference Champs need to make major changes?

What caused the Sens collapse in the Cup final? Was it coaching, goaltending, defence, or just bad luck?

Have your say in our forum.

I've been watching Stanley Cup Playoffs since about 1956, and even though many of the series were over in 4 or 5 games, this is the first time I've watched such consistently poorly played hockey by a losing team with supposedly so much talent. While I would have loved Ottawa to win, I would also have loved to have watched a well played series involving 'two' participating teams. There were a couple of games when I thought the Ottawa Senator's players were actually in the stands watching Emery play. Ottawa should trade at least two players, and in fact should have traded both of them last year, namely Speeza and Redden. Both are over rated and over paid. Also, trade Gerber, but keep Emery as a back-up. While he played well overall for this year, he is still shakey and questionable in my mind, to rely on as the No. 1 goalie. Also, it's time for Muckler to go. As for Murray, I think he did an excellent job given what he had to work with.

What is all this choke talk? So you only choke if you get IN the play-offs. Must be leaf fans! I'm sure the players all butr Mike Fisher are embarrassed at the way they played. Good work Fish too bad the rest took the finals off to prepare for golf season.

The Sens simply did not play good hockey. They played great in series 1-3 but simply did not compete in the finals. As far as who should go, all 3 blonde Swedish Captains of Canadian teams could benefit from new scenery.

When you break it down, the Senators are weak mentally. They should have been swept. The first change is with Alfie, too weak, and as he showed us yet again, no class.

1. What caused the Sens collapse in the Cup final? - Alfredsson's classless act in Game 4 certainly spoke volumes of the mindset of the Ottawa leader. (who is suppoed to be in the same class Messier, I don't think so....)

2. Was it coaching, goaltending, defence, or just bad luck? - Stupidity by above mentioned player motivated the Ducks, it could have been a much different 2-2 tied series)

It was one heck of a ride. I am sure quite the experience for the entire org (and city too!).

i bet they leave things alone and give it a bash again next year.

Only one team wins, and the best won this year for sure.

Changes wont hurt 'em. They were beat by a team that was bigger, stronger, tougher, faster, younger, better, smarter. Too bad for the Sens fans but that's what happens when one teams clearly better than the other.

Lots of "interesting" comments below!!! However, no talk about the coach. Bryan Murray needs to shoulder some blame as well, as he was severely out coached. I agree that he should call out his players, and it may help next year, but he should also ensure he adds his name to that list.

If you made the finals you didn't choke. Alfredsson was great. What's this crap about a European not being able to lead? Did you watch the game. The guy's that tanked were Canadian, Redden, Speza and Heatley. I said at the begining of the year ..if you invest your heart with the Senators you are bound to be disappointed.

First of all,I'm not a huge Ducks fan,but I did follow them throughout the playoffs.I just wanted to comment on Jay Brown's biased rant.Where are the rent a players on their roster?I am having a hard time thinking of any.As far as I know they have been together all year. And they have plenty of young players---Perry,Getzlaf,Penner,Kunitz,Moen.The only old guys are Selanne and S.Niedermayer, who obviously were a huge part of the team. So,buddy, take your blinders off and face it.The better team won.
